Kaslo is a village in the West Kootenay region of British Columbia, Canada, located on the west shore of Kootenay Lake. Known for its natural environment, it is a member municipality of the Central Kootenay Regional District. As of 2016, it had a population of 968.Kaslo was designated as a sawmill site in 1889, and expanded due to the silver boom of the late19th century. It retains much of the historic atmosphere from its earlier mining days. The town today relies mainly on the industries of forestry and tourism.

    Kootenay Lake is a lake located in British Columbia, Canada and is part of the Kootenay River. The lake has been raised by the Corra Linn Dam and has a dike system at the southern end, which, along with industry in the 1950s-70s, has changed the ecosystem in and around the water. The Kootenay Lake ferry is a year-round toll-free ferry that crosses between Kootenay Bay and Balfour and is the longest free scenic ferry in the world. The lake is a popular summer tourist destination.

    Retallack is a ghost town near the head of the Kaslo River, in the Kootenays region of British Columbia. It is located in the pass between Kaslo and New Denver. Retallack was founded in the 1800s. The town is also called Whitewater. J. Eaton recovered almost a million dollars in ore from the area. Retallack was built to support the mining operation located there. The town slowly went into decline and today is deserted.

The ski season starts in mid December and runs until early April. The resort maintains 80 runs and 5 liftsystems: a high-speed quad chair lift , a triple chair , a double chair , a T-bar and a magic carpet, leading to a total lift capacity of 6,452 skiers per hour.
