Bluebell Railway - First (and Last?) Public Trip on Ardingly Branch since 1963

Yes, see what's Round the Bend in Horsted Keynes! This was the first trip of the day hence the first public trip on part of the Ardingly branch from Horsted Keynes since closure of the electric service from Haywards Heath in 1963. A brake car trip pulled by Fenchurch which takes an express non-stop trip South through Horsted Keynes Station and on to the start of the Ardingly branch on 15th August 2009. Here we see some of the stock awaiting restoration stored on the parallel line before stopping (fortunately !) at the beginning of the gap where the missing Sheriff Mill viaduct was blown up by the army. You can also see two service trains and the diesel loco hidden away behind the scenes. As you can see the track was rusty and unused. Trip in aid of the Northern Extension Fund which hopes to reconnect with East Grinstead main line. Tickets cost just £3 and represented excellent value. After getting to East Grinstead and a bit of a rest, we hope the Bluebell will push Westwards to Ardingly and eventually back to Haywards Heath! This would give a spare route to the coast in event of an incident on the main London line and could be a nice little earner for the Bluebell. The large mound between the Sheffield Park and Ardingly lines is the site of the new picnic area created with some of the spoil from the Northern tip. It will be a great place for photographers - as long as the inevitable fencing isn't too intrusive! Sorry about the video quality, I only had my still camera with me so it's 4:3 and lower resolution than my other videos.
UPDATE: I had been told that due to Health and Safety further short trips on the Ardingly branch have been banned (since corrected) so we will have to wait for the first trip to Ardingly to travel again. Oh I should live so long!

Bluebell Railway Giants of Steam Gala - Saturday & Sunday 29th/30th October 2016

Welcome to my compilation video from the Saturday and Sunday of the Bluebell Railway's Giants of Steam Gala. Visiting this year was B12 no.8572 from the North Norfolk Railway and 8F no.48624 from the Great Central Railway. They joined home fleet Std 5 no.73082 'Camelot', S15 no.847 and Q no.30541 in a four train passenger service with a morning and evening freight on the Friday and Saturday.

This is my first video produced since the birth of our first child Harry on Wednesday 12th October so filming was split with a quick trip by myself to Horsted Keynes on Saturday morning and a trip to West Hoathly again by myself on the Sunday before a round-trip with my wife, son and my parents on Sunday afternoon in the observation car behind 73082 & 30541 and some extra shots taken during that trip. All in all it was a very enjoyable gala to end the year with!

Lets Walk (LW)! Chelwoodgate, Birch Grove and Ashdown Forest

Thursday (22nd of Dec) was unusually warm. In fact it was almost like a spring day, so I decided to go for a walk and a short way in I decided to recorder.

Unfortunately I only had my compact digital camera with me so the recording quality and the sound aren't all that great. If anyone feels like buying me a digital camcorder....!

Bluebell Railway East Grinstead Opening Festival Day One - Saturday 23rd March 2013

Welcome to my video of Day One of the Bluebell Railway's East Grinstead Opening Festival. The Bluebell Railway was granted planning permission to extend from Horsted Keynes to East Grinstead in 1985. Over the next 28 years many obstacles have had to be overcome to complete the project (more details can be found here... and finally on the 23rd March regular steam hauled trains between Sheffield Park and East Grinstead commenced.

To celebrate the Bluebell Railway is holding a mega 16 day opening festival of which I shall cover five days, links to my other videos below....

Saturday 23rd March was a day of firsts in freezing conditions with snow on the ground and I initially catch them from Hill Place Farm Bridge at the north end of the cutting. The first steam hauled departure from East Grinstead was the 9.45am behind E4 no.B473 with P no.323 'Bluebell' and Terrier no.55 'Stepney' at the rear followed by the first Sheffield Park departure for East Grinstead, the 9.30am 'Grinsteade Belle' behind U no.1638. Next we see the returning 'Grinsteade Belle' and the first service train for East Grinstead, the 10.05am behind 9F no.92212.

The day then settled down to a 45 minute service of four trains, 9F no.92212, U no.1638, P no.178 piloting H no.263 and P no.323 'Bluebell' piloting E4 no.B473 and the second half of my video shows a mixture of shots from Kingscote and Horsted Keynes stations.

Bluebell Railway Easter Saturday 19th April 2014

Welcome to my video from the Easter Saturday trains at the Bluebell Railway. A normal two train 75 minute service was running in the hands of S15 no.847 and U no.1638, with H no.263 in action on a private wedding charter, unfortunately not captured on video. We see the action lineside around Horsted Keynes alongside the spring flowers.
