Preveza, Greece - Epirus
Preveza is a port town on the Ionian sea, part of the region of Epirus. It is known for Ancient Nicopolis, the Acheron River and the Necromanteion (Oracle of the Dead). During summer months, the port of Preveza is full of boats and yachts, while cafes are filled with people. In the picturesque streets of Preveza there are nineteenth century mansions with their remarkable architecture along with houses with insular features. The cobbled alley of Seitan Bazaar with its traditional ouzeri is a famous area in the town. Preveza is adorned with significant Christian temples, such as the churches of Agios Nikolaos and Agios Athanasios, as well as the metropolitan temple of Agios Charalambos with its exceptional paintings and the wooden carved gold-plated iconostasis. Adjacent to the church is the venetian Clock Tower, a landmark of the city, built in 1752. Greek taverns, cafes, and narrow streets portray the typical Mediterranean appearance that you would expect from an old town. The large quay with the beautiful neoclassical buildings creates the perfect setting for relaxing walks. With the combination of the nature and vegetation and the traditional taverns, a very idyllic environment is created. There are many beautiful beaches and other natural sites that one can enjoy while visiting Preveza Prefecture.

Koroni, Peloponnese - Greece HD Travel Channel
Koroni (Κορώνη), a small town in the southwest of the Peloponnese on the Gulf of Messina, is about 30 km east of Methoni, 50 km south of Kalamata.
The picturesque town is the popular destination for many individual tourists. The beautiful narrow streets convey the Greek architecture and culture and the traces of the Venetians are still evident in the architecture in many places.
Koroni is dominated by a fort, which is strategically located on a peninsula. The walls merge into the high cliffs which provide a natural protection.
The town was founded by the Byzantines and later ruled by Venetians and Ottomans.
Worth seeing are the castle complex located in the cross-domed church Agia Sophia and the post-Byzantine church Agios Charalambos.

Sehenswert sind die in der Burganlage befindlichen Kreuzkuppelkirche Agia Sophia und die nachbyzantinische Kirche Agios Charalambos.

Ierapetra is in southeast Crete, in an extremely strategic position controlling the south coast of Crete and the Libyan Sea.
Favoured both by position and by nature, Ierapetra has always been an important centre of the island. It has grown into the largest town in south Crete and a major tourist destination. When you visit it you will find a lively, active town - much more so than Agios Nikolaos or Sitia.

ENGAGE on the Move Goes to Kontea!

After our trip to Agros, the volunteer team of the ENGAGE -- Do your part for Peace programme is travelling once again to another local festival. This time the team is heading out to the Messaoria region in the northern part of Cyprus to Kontea village. Our volunteers will participate in a ceremony organised to announce the opening of the Auxiliary Buildings Courtyard. The restoration of the courtyard is the second phase of a project which includes the rescue and preservation of a unique historical site on the outskirts of the village of Kontea and consists of the Orthodox Church of Agios Charalambos and its Auxiliary Buildings, a Catholic Chapel and cemetery, a Frankish Manor from the time of the Crusaders and an Ottoman irrigation system of stone cisterns and aqueducts.
The Opening Ceremony will take place on Saturday the 8th of December from 13:00 to 16:00 and will be inaugurated by H.E.Mr. John M. Koenig, the US Ambassador to Cyprus. The ENGAGE team would like to invite the public to travel with us and witness this unique restoration project that is of utmost importance to Cyprus historical heritage, and share their views on peace and reconciliation issues.
ENGAGE on the Move aims to inform the public with regards to peace and reconciliation issues between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities. By participating in the event the ENGAGE do your part for Peace programme will increase its attempt to inform members of the two communities about peace building, specifically targeting members of society from areas and villages located far from the island's major cities. Our volunteers will also inform the public about Cyprus' Civil Society character and emphasise the importance of volunteerism and Active Citizenship. The Engage team will also distribute giveaways to the public and offer entertainment for the children. Our programme will try to inspire the audience to actively contribute to the peace process by asking them to voice their opinions the Active Dialogue Network campaign.
The event will include live music, a short film projection presenting the cultural heritage of Kontea village and a festival with traditional dances from the Dance for Peace ensemble, authentic Cyprus foods and refreshments as well as various activities for the children.
Our partners have organised free transportation for the specific event from central locations in Nicosia, Larnaca and Limassol and departure times have been set as follows:
Nicosia: 10:00 from Apostolos Varnavas Church, Athalassa Ave. (Michalikis Vasileiou 99654027)
