Alzey is a Verband-free town – one belonging to no Verbandsgemeinde – in the Alzey-Worms district in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It is the fourth-largest town in Rhenish Hesse, after Mainz, Worms, and Bingen. Alzey is one of the Nibelungenstädte – towns associated with the Nibelungenlied – because it is represented in this work by the character Volker von Alzey. Hence, Alzey is also known as Völkerstadt.

1. Speyer Cathedral Speyer
The Speyer Cathedral, officially the Imperial Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption and St Stephen, in Latin: Domus sanctae Mariae Spirae in Speyer, Germany, is the seat of the Roman Catholic Bishop of Speyer and is suffragan to the Archdiocese of Bamberg. The cathedral, which is dedicated to St. Mary, patron saint of Speyer and St. Stephen is generally known as Kaiserdom zu Speyer . Pope Pius XI raised Speyer Cathedral to the rank of a minor basilica of the Roman Catholic Church in 1925. Begun in 1030 under Konrad II, with the east end and high vault of 1090–1103, the imposing triple-aisled vaulted basilica of red sandstone is the culmination of a design which was extremely influential in the subsequent development of Romanesque architecture during the 11th and 12th centuries. Today I take you on a quick tour of some of the things to see and do in Worms.
Its the next biggest town to where I am living. A nice town with some nice cafe's ,museums and old buildings to see. Plenty of places also to have a nice meal and to sit back and relax on a nice day.

Worms, Germany - home of my Oma & Opa, where I used to come visit

Worms is one of the oldest and most historic of Germany cities, but more than that, it was also the home of my beloved grandparents (meine Oma and Opa), whom I visited there as a child.
This was my first trip back in over 55 years; they have passed on and I began my visit by going to their beautiful gravesite @ Hauptfriedhof Worms aka Friedhof Hochheimer Hohe which you can read about more here:

We then did several walkabouts, which included Ludwigsplatz where there is a statue/oblelisk to Ludwig V and then the nearby memorial to Martin Luther, a major leader in the Protestant Reformation. The memorial is the largest Martin Luther Memorial in the world & you can read more about it here:

Last, but not least, we visited the ancient Niebelungen Bridge - it happened to be closed for repairs, so we were not able to walk underneath it through the archway of the giant tower. Of course, all of Worms is mentioned in the famous Nibelung Legend, involving Siegried and Brunhilde. There are whimsical dragon statues all over the city to remind everyone of the legend and also includes a statue of Hagen throwing the jewels into the Rhein (Rhine River) - it is down by the beautiful promenade along the river.
Since I was only around 8 at the time, a lot of the sights are only vague memories to me, but the emotions came back of spending time with my beloved grandparents.

Hotel Parking was full so we had to park near in the Parkhaus Rheingoldhalle for 15 Euros over the night. Cheaper than the Hotel Parking.

Worms, die Nibelungenstadt - Sehenswürdigkeiten

Wir beginnen unseren Rundgang durch die Nibelungen- und Lutherstadt Worms an der Nibelungenbrücke über den Rhein.
Neben vielen Einzeldenkmalen steht insbesondere der romanischen Kaiserdome St.Peter im Mittelpunkt unserer Betrachtungen. Besonders sehenswert sind auch die Reste der aschkenasisch-jüdischen Kultur, insbesondere der Friedhof und die Synagoge. Unser Rundgang durch Worms endet am Hauptbahnhof.
