  • 1. Basilica di San Francesco Amatrice
    The Basilica of San Bernardino is located in L'Aquila, Italy. The church was built, with the adjacent cloister, between 1454 and 1472 in honor of St Bernardino of Siena. The corpse of the saint is guarded inside the church in a mausoleum. it was declared a Basilica Minor in May 1946 by Pope Pius XII. The earthquake in April 2009 seriously ruined the apse and the campanile. In May 2015, the basilica was reopened to the community.

    Rocca Calascio is a mountaintop fortress or rocca in the Province of L'Aquila in Abruzzo, Italy. At an elevation of 1,460 metres , Rocca Calascio is the highest fortress in the Apennines. Built of stone and masonry exclusively for military purposes and intended only to accommodate troops and never as residence for nobles, the fortress overlooks the Plain of Navelli at one of the highest points in the ancient Barony of Carapelle. Construction of the fortress started in the tenth century as a single watchtower. A walled courtyard with four cylindrical towers at the corners around a taller inner tower was added in the thirteenth century.
