What you will see in this video:
- the famous Sellaronda, which is circular ski route around the Sella massif. You will pass the four Ladin valleys: Val Gardena, Alta Badia, Val di Fassa and Arabba. The tour can be done in both directions, clockwise or anticlockwise.
- the mountain Lagazuoi and Cinque Torri, along the Grande Guerra. The Grande Guerra ski tour is the First World War ski tour, and one of the most spectacular ski tours in the Dolomites. The track goes along the mountain Mount Col di Lana, which is the centre point of the First World War tour. Along the route you will find yourself between the nature and history of the Dolomites. The track is in total 80 km (49 mi) long and you will drive the longest ski slope in the Dolomites, from the top of Lagazuoi ( descends towards Armentarola in Alta Badia.
- the Queen of the Dolomites, the mountain Marmolada, which is the highest peak of the Dolomites UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site with its 3342 meters of altitude. From the top of the Marmolada you can enjoy one of the longest slopes of Dolomiti Superski, the 12 km long La Bellunese (which is also connected to the Sellaronda ski tour). There is even a small museum on the top of the Mount Marmolada, called “Marmolada Great War Museum” which is about the battlefield during WW1 in the Dolomites.
- Santa Croce, which is a pilgrimage destination situated at 2,045 meters of altitude right in the middle of the Fanes. The small restaurant next to the church serves the best food ever!!!
- Seceda-Col Raiser-Rasciesa skiing consortium, with the beautiful view of the Langkofel Group and the Dolomites, as well all the mountains from Ortles to Großglockner (in Austria).

Europe's Most Beautiful Hidden Romantic Village - Santa Maddalena, Dolomites Casies in 4K
Easily one of our favorite villages on earth that we've had the fortune of discovering over our combined 20+ years of non-stop globe trotting journey. Santa Maddalena, in the valley of Gsies in northern Italy (just south of the Austrian border) is a marvel for all the senses. It's no wonder we return here several times a year, often spending 4-5 weeks here, just to unwind, regenerate, and appreciate our planet in it's purest, organic form- an experience that is becoming increasingly difficult to find around the globe.
A special note to our friends here: I apologize for being unable to upload any videos over the last two months. My travel schedule had been unusually busy, leaving me with very little time to edit the numerous backup drives filled with footage. Expect a few more cool videos over the next week or so (Monaco, Switzerland, Thailand, Spain, Japan, and a few others).

Dolomites in Italy - one of Europe's best areas for recreation and winter sports. Under this name combines 12 large valleys with villages and small resort towns. Modern trails and lifts are combined here with comfortable hotels, villas and chalets. Shops offer sports equipment, branded clothes and shoes, and all kinds of souvenirs. In numerous cafés and restaurants serving local specialties and Italian wines. There are noisy parties, exhibitions, carnivals - entertainment for the soul exists for each guest.

In 2009, the Dolomites were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List as a unique natural object. The region has a lot of slopes of different levels, there are trails for cross country skiing, skating rinks, snow parks and sports centers. For many years, there are competitions of the European and global scale, such as the World Cup biathlon. The number of resort towns and villages more than 50, each of them - has its own unique atmosphere.
Downhill slopes, lifts
Dolomites in Italy unite more than 1200 km of ski slopes of different levels. They serve about 500 lifts, which are constantly being upgraded. Here is the famous Sella Ronda, Dolomite Carousel. So-called system of trails and lifts that can be used without removing skis, go a few dozen kilometers and visit the resorts of Val Gardena, Val di Fassa, Alta Badia, Arabba and many others. Ski infrastructure of the region united universal ski pass Dolomiti Superski. This ticket allows you to use the lifts in all 12 skiing areas.
Entertainment and Activities
Opportunities in the region are not limited to skiing. The Dolomites in Italy you can do cross-country skiing, snowboarding, mountain climbing or paragliding. In the village of Ortisei is a modern water sports center, a heated indoor pool available in most resort towns. You can not only relax but also to learn about the history and traditions of the region. The Cortina d'Ampezzo there are open-air museum in Alta Badia - the castle of the XII century Ciastel de Tor. Every year in February in the villages of Vigo di Fassa and Pozza di Fassa Ladin Carnival is held; it is possible to get acquainted with the ancient games, dances and clothes of inhabitants of the Dolomites. Another way to learn more about the culture of this area - sample local delicacies and wines, which are offered in every cafe and restaurant.

Throughout the first world war, this beautiful mountain range served as a key battlefield for the Italian and Austro-Hungarian armies.
It was the Italian Alpini vs the Austrian Kaiserjager for control of the northern frontier of the newly established modern Italy.
For this high altitude combat, Over 1800 miles or 3,000 kilometers of trenches were dug up on the Italian side alone.
A labyrinth of caves carved into the mountains served as a pathway, a launchpad, and a resting place for the over half a million highly trained, unfortunate souls who lived and fought here for over three grueling years.
While Austrians bombed from above, the Italians set explosives from down below, and yet more people died from the cold and avalanches than the battles themselves.
We’re in one of the most beautiful places in the world, and at one point, for many people, it was also the most horrible.
Via Ferrata, or iron road, are systems of cables and ladders that traverse some of the most stunning and otherwise inaccessible territory of northern Italy.
Used to aid the movement of skilled troops in WWI, today they’ll help an eager group of bumbling civilians climb through the clouds.
Despite the weather hindering what’s said to be a breathtaking view of the Dolomites, I’m happy with reaching the top, and knowing that there’s warm food waiting back at the lodge.
For lunch its a thick ham and bean soup, finished with affogatos - hot expresso with vanilla ice cream.
and for dinner its a mouthwatering duck carpaccio, life changing lasagna, a delicious veal filet over proccito-wrapped mashed potatoes, and a chocolate tort shaped like the landscapes we just left behind.
It’s definitely a meal worth fighting for, but just maybe not up in the mountains.

During our 2018 vacation, we visited the Dolomites with our 5 and 7 year old kids. What a beautiful place to hike!
