Atlantic City is a resort city in Atlantic County, New Jersey, United States, known for its casinos, boardwalk, and beaches. In 2010, it had a population of 39,558. The city was incorporated on May 1, 1854, from portions of Egg Harbor Township and Galloway Township. It borders Absecon, Brigantine, Pleasantville, Ventnor City, Egg Harbor Township, and the Atlantic Ocean. Atlantic City inspired the U.S. version of the board game Monopoly, especially the street names. Since 1921, Atlantic City has been the home of the Miss America pageant. In 1976, New Jersey voters legalized casino gambling in Atlantic City. The first casino opened two years later.

    Atlantic City High School is a four-year public high school serving students in ninth through twelfth grades in Atlantic City, in Atlantic County, New Jersey, United States, operating as part of the Atlantic City School District. The current school building opened in 1994 and holds approximately 2,500 students. Students from Brigantine, Longport, Margate City and Ventnor City attend the school as part of sending/receiving relationships with their respective school districts.As of the 2015-16 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,954 students and 154.0 classroom teachers , for a student–teacher ratio of 12.7:1. There were 1,215 students eligible for free lunch and 54 eligible for reduced-cost lunch.
