Baling is a major town in the northern state of Kedah in Malaysia. It is also the name of a district in which Baling town is situated. It is an hour drive away from Betong, the southernmost town in Thailand or estimately 2 hours drive from Penang. If you talk about Baling, most of the people will mention Baling is known as a place where the Peace Talks take place in 1955 between the Chin Peng (Communist Head) and Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj (Malaysia First Prime Minister).

Sungai Petani (abbreviated Sg. Petani or SP; Chinese: 双溪大年; Tamil: சுங்கை பட்டாணி) is a town in Kuala Muda District, Kedah, Malaysia. Sungai Petani is Kedah's largest town and is located about 55 km south of Alor Setar, the capital of Kedah, and 33 km northeast of George Town, the capital city of the neighbouring state of Penang.
Due to its close proximity to Penang, Sungai Petani is also part of Greater Penang, Malaysia's second largest conurbation, with the town's logistical needs being served by Penang's well developed transportation infrastructure. Sungai Petani has experienced heavy industrialisation since the 1990s, when Japanese and other international firms began to set up manufacturing plants around the town.
