Berd , is a town and urban municipal community in the Tavush Province of Armenia. Formerly known as Berdagyugh, Gamma, Tavuzghala, Tauzkend, Tovuz, Volorut, Shlorut and Ghalakyand, it is located to the left of the Tavush river, 211 kilometres from Yerevan, surrounded with low mountains. Located near the city are the ruins of the Tavush fortress , the Nor Varagavank and Khoranashat monasteries . Other monasteries not far include Shkhmuradi, Srveghi and Kaptavank.

    Sanahin Monastery is an Armenian monastery founded in the 10th century in the Lori Province of Armenia. The name Sanahin literally translates from Armenian as this one is older than that one, presumably representing a claim to having an older monastery than the neighbouring Haghpat Monastery. The two villages and their monasteries are similar in many ways, and lie in plain view of each other on a dissected plateau formation, separated by a deep crack formed by a small river flowing into the Debed river.     Goshavank is a 12th- or 13th-century Armenian monastery located in the village of Gosh in the Tavush Province of Armenia. Today the monastery is not a functioning religious complex, although it remains a popular tourist destination and has recently undergone some light restoration. These restorations are being financed by an Islamic individual from the United Arab Emirates for reasons not fully understood. The impressive monastery which has remained in relatively good condition also houses one of the world's finest examples of a khachkar.

    Noratus cemetery, also spelled Noraduz, is a medieval cemetery with a large number of early khachkars located in the village of Noratus, Gegharkunik marz near Gavar and Lake Sevan, 90 km north of Yerevan.The cemetery has the largest cluster of khachkars in the Republic of Armenia. It is currently the largest surviving cemetery with khachkars following the destruction of the khachkars in Old Julfa, Nakhichevan by the government of Azerbaijan.
