The Wieliczka Salt Mines were regularly recommended as one of the things we couldn't miss during our stay in Krakow in 2018. It's safe to say this was a fun vlog and one of our fav from Poland so far! The Wieliczka Salt Mines are insane, full of rich history and absolutely stunning - the tour was also well worth it. If you're planning a trip to Krakow we highly recommend you also take a look at visiting!

Wieliczka Salt Mine: An Underground Monument in Krakow, Poland
The Wieliczka Salt Mine (Polish: Kopalnia Soli Wieliczka) is one of the most amazing sites you will ever in Krakow, Poland. The salt mine opened in the 13th century and has produced table salt continuously until 2007. The mine's attractions include dozens of statues and four chapels carved out of the rock salt by the miners. Often referred to as the underground salt cathedral of Poland, the mine was placed on the original UNESCO list of the World Heritage Sites in 1978.

Wszystko, co zobaczylem w Kopalni Soli w Wieliczce jet cudowne. Koplania Wieliczka jest to najstarsza i jednocześnie największa, a przy tym ciągle czynna. Nigdzie na świecie nie odnalazlem niczego choćby w małym stopniu porównywalnego z wielickim labiryntem. W tym solnym swiecie wszystko jest monumentalne, a jego unikalność zapiera dech.
Everything I saw in the Wieliczka Salt Mine is wonderful. Salt Mine Wieliczka is the oldest and, at the same time, the largest, and at the same time still open. Nowhere in the world have I found anything even to a small extent comparable with the Wieliczka maze. In this salt world, everything is monumental and its uniqueness is breathtaking.

Krakow Tour Plus visit to The Wieliczka salt Mines
This is part one of our trip to Krakow. We took an early Ryanair flight from Stansted to Krakow, then took the train to the city centre, our hotel was called Andel Hotel and was located right next to the station.
In the afternoon we took the train to Wieliczka to visit the salt mines, well worth a visit.
Here are some notes about the Wieliczka Salt Mines: The Wieliczka Salt Mine, located in the town of Wieliczka in southern Poland, lies within the Kraków metropolitan area. The mine continuously produced table salt from the 13th century until 2007 as one of the world's oldest operating salt mines (the oldest being the Bochnia Salt Mine).
The mine's attractions for tourists include dozens of statues and an entire cathedral that have been carved out of the rock salt by the miners. About 1.2 million persons visit the Wieliczka Salt Mine annually.
Commercial mining was discontinued in 1996 due to low salt prices and mine flooding.
