    Opol, officially the Municipality of Opol, is a 2nd class municipality in the province of Misamis Oriental, Philippines. According to the 2015 census, it has a population of 61,503 people.Opol was created from the barrios of Opol, Igpit, and Lower Iponan, formerly part of Cagayan de Oro, by virtue of Republic Act No. 524, approved June 15, 1950.The municipality is gradually becoming more urbanized, as a result of local population growth and the expansion of nearby Cagayan de Oro City. Historically, Opol was a more rural area focused on agriculture and fishing. The subdivision of rural land for new residential housing is a matter of some controversy amongst locals. The current Mayor, Dexter Q. Yasay , has held office in Opol since 2010.

    Macahambus Cave is a scenic cave in the Misamis Oriental province, part of Cagayan de Oro, in the Philippines. The area of the cave is part of the tropical Macahambus Forest nature reserve.The cave, which houses a colony of bats, is a tourist attraction, and it is equipped with path and walkable scenic trails; one end of the cave leads to a veranda overlooking the Cagayan River. About 200 meters from the cave itself there is a doline, improperly referred to as the Macahambus Gorge.The place was the site of the Battle of Makahambus Hill , the first of the few battles won by the Filipinos during the Philippine-American War.The Filipino troops in Macahambus were led by Lt. Cruz Taal and Col. Apolinar Velez.
