Cagnano Varano is a town and comune in the province of Foggia in the Apulia region of southeast Italy. It occupies a commanding position above the Lago di Varano, and is part of the Gargano National Park. The economy is mostly based on agriculture, fishing and tourism. Sights include the karstic grotto of San Michele, which has been frequented since the Old Stone Age. It is now consecrated as a Roman Catholic chapel.

    Gargano is a historical and geographical sub-region in the province of Foggia, Apulia, southeast Italy, consisting of a wide isolated mountain massif made of highland and several peaks and forming the backbone of the Gargano Promontory projecting into the Adriatic Sea, the spur on the Italian boot. The high point is Monte Calvo at 1,065 m . Most of the upland area, about 1,200 km2 , is part of the Gargano National Park, founded in 1991. It is within the Italian Province of Foggia.
