The canton of Uri is one of the 26 cantons of Switzerland and a founding member of the Swiss Confederation. It is located in Central Switzerland. The canton's territory covers the valley of the Reuss between the St. Gotthard Pass and Lake Lucerne. The official language of Uri is German, but the main spoken dialect is the Alemannic Swiss German called Urner German. Uri was the only canton where the children in school had to learn Italian as their first foreign language. But in the school year of 2005/2006 this was changed to English as in most other cantons. 1. Wilhelm Tell Monument Altdorf
William Tell is a folk hero of Switzerland. According to the legend, Tell was an expert marksman with the crossbow who assassinated Albrecht Gessler, a tyrannical reeve of the Habsburg dukes positioned in Altdorf, in the canton of Uri. Tell's defiance and tyrannicide encouraged the population to open rebellion and a pact against the foreign rulers with neighbouring Schwyz and Unterwalden, marking the foundation of the Swiss Confederacy. Set in the early 14th century , the first written records of the legend date to the latter part of the 15th century, when the Swiss Confederacy was gaining military and political influence. Tell is a central figure in Swiss national historiography, along with Arnold von Winkelried the hero of Sempach . He was important as a symbol during the formative stage...

The Rütlischwur is a legendary oath of the Old Swiss Confederacy, taken on the Rütli, a meadow above Lake Uri near Seelisberg. The oath is notably featured in the play William Tell by Friedrich Schiller.

The Furka Cogwheel Steam Railway is a largely volunteer operated heritage railway which operates a partially rack and pinion-operated line across the Furka Pass, between Realp in Uri and Oberwald in Valais. Culminating at 2,160 metres , above sea level, it is an old mountainous section of the Furka Oberalp Bahn that was abandoned after the construction of the Furka Tunnel. It has been gradually brought back into service by the Verein Furka-Bergstrecke with the use of only steam locomotives, with the entire line completed in 2010.:86-7 The Furka Railway is the second highest rail crossing in Europe, after the Bernina Railway. 4. Tellskapelle Sisikon
The Tellskapelle is located on the Tellsplatte or Tellenplatte on the shore of Lake Lucerne at the foot of the Axenberg cliffs , in the Sisikon municipality, canton of Uri, Switzerland. It is across the Bay of Uri from the Rütli, some 4.3 km away. The Catholic chapel marks the site where according to legend, William Tell during a storm leapt from the boat of his captors and escaped, allowing him to assassinate the tyrant Gessler and initiate the rebellion that led to the foundation of the Old Swiss Confederacy. The Tellenplatte is first mentioned in 1470 in the White Book of Sarnen, as Tellen blatten. The current chapel was built in 1879. It is decorated with four frescos by Ernst Stückelberg, realized in 1880-1882.

The Aare Gorge is a section of the river Aare that carves through a limestone ridge near the town of Meiringen, in the Bernese Oberland region of Switzerland. The gorge is an indirect product of glaciation; 10,000 years ago, just as the Ice Age was coming to an end, torrential runoff water from melting glaciers eroded a deep, narrow chasm through the limestone barrier. Although barely one mile long, this passage is bordered by sheer cliffs up to 165 feet high on either side. The gorge varies in width from some 30 metres at its widest to just 1 metre at its narrowest.The gorge is a popular tourist attraction, many visitors attracted by the nearby Reichenbach Falls, which Sir Arthur Conan Doyle selected as the setting for Sherlock Holmes' murder by Professor Moriarty. Travel from Erstfeld to Altdorf in Canton Uri, Switzerland

Come on a journey from Erstfeld to Altdorf, Switzerland. This video was filmed on 31 March 2019, while traveling through Canton Uri. You will see the River Reuss throughout the video as well as beautiful views of the Swiss Alps. Passing through these towns is a famous Highway (Autobahn) from Lucerne to Lugano built in 1980. Besides car travel, there are also plenty of options for hiking and biking trails. This area is especially beautiful because of the old farms that dot the landscape. Their architecture is especially interesting, as it reflects the history and culture of Switzerland. A small cable car (Luftseilbahn), will transport small groups of tourists up to even better views of the alps. Another notable feature of this area is Rega, the Swiss air ambulance, which is located in the northern part of Erstfeld. While this journey is not filled with tourists it is still an attractive place for tourists to visit. Along the journey you will see truck stop Gotthard, part of a trail in the tunnel. This tour ends in Railway Station Altdorf. The center of Altdorf is only about 1 km from the railway station, but after a long day of touring, taking the train makes sense for many ambitious visitors.

Susten Pass in Swiss Alps- Switzerland

Susten Pass (German: Sustenpass) (el. 2262 m.) is a mountain pass in the Swiss Alps. The pass road, built from 1938–1945, connects Innertkirchen in the canton of Bern with Wassen in the canton of Uri. A 300 metres long tunnel crosses the pass at 2,224 metres.

The pass is popular with tourists, especially for the views of the Stein Glacier on the south side.
