Châteauneuf-sur-Charente is a commune in the Charente department in southwestern France. Former capital of the canton, it is with Cognac and Jarnac, one of the three towns situated in the heart of the Charente vineyards, and the smallest. The city is established on the banks of the Charente, on the left bank of a large meander.

  • 1. Oradour-sur-Glane Oradour Sur Glane
    On 10 June 1944, the village of Oradour-sur-Glane in Haute-Vienne in Nazi-occupied France was destroyed, when 642 of its inhabitants, including women and children, were massacred by a German Waffen-SS company. A new village was built nearby after the war, but French president Charles de Gaulle ordered the original maintained as a permanent memorial and museum.
