Today, it is the residence of descendants of the ancient lords. The château is a listed ancient monument originally dating from 1060.A range of wines are produced at the château which has 30 hectares of vineyards.

Maastricht is one of the oldest cities in Holland, as you will quickly discover when strolling through the historic inner city. Churches, city walls, monumental merchant houses and big squares merge seamlessly with a comprehensive and varied range of shops.

[4K] PARIS, FRANCE - Forum Des Halles to Pompidou

Join us for this 4k virtual tour through Paris, France as we walk from the Forum Des Halles to the Pompidou Center.

Filmed in May on a GoPro Hero 6, we start our walking tour at the corner of Rue Du Louvre and Rue Coquillière by the Au Pied de Cochon restaurant.

We see the imposing Église Saint-Eustache as we walk through the Quartier des Halles, a green space full of life in the heart of this shopping district.

We enter the newly built Forum Des Halles itself, and see for ourselves it's sweeping, curved glass roof.

On leaving the Forum, we take Rue Berger, eyeing Fontaine des Innocents on the way. We cross Boulevard de Sébastopol as we near Place George Pompidou and the avant-garde Le Centre Pompidou itself, home of the National Museum of Modern Art.

We finish our walk by Fontaine Stravinsky (Stravinsky Fountain,) with it's multicoloured, modern-art fountains.

A slow walk through the city's sights and history has to be first on the list of the free top 10 things to do in Paris France.

Places to see in ( Carcassonne - France ) Chateau Comtal

The Château Comtal (Count’s Castle) is a medieval castle within the Cité of Carcassonne, the largest city in Europe with its city walls still intact. The Medieval Cité lies within the modern city of Carcassonne in the Aude department, of which Carcassonne is the prefecture, in the former province of Languedoc.

Although the outer curtain wall of the cité is French, and the whole site has been substantially restored, the Château Comtal has a strong claim to be called a Cathar Castle. When the Catholic Crusader army arrived in 1209 they first attacked Raymond-Roger Trencavel's castrum at Bèziers and then moved on to his main stronghold at Carcassonne.

The castle was restored in 1853 by the architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc. It was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 1997. You can visit the medieval cite (free) and the Château Comtal (entry fee).

Carcassonne was besieged from 1st to 15th of August 1209 during the early phase of the War against the Cathars of the Languedoc. The siege followed soon after the Crusaders' massacre of the entire population of Béziers, an act of terror designed to terrify the people of the area. Raymond-Roger Trencavel was Viscount of Béziers as well as Carcassonne - his cities were deliberately targeted by the Crusaders, as the Count of Toulouse had joined the Crusade himself, gaining immunity for his own lands.
