Goetheanum, Dornach, Switzerland
The remarkable Goetheanum building, named after the German writer and statesman, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, is the headquarters of Anthroposophy and a conference centre and auditorium located in Dornach in the Swiss Jura.
The building, and others in this small town, was built by architect Rudolph Steiner entirely in steel and poured concrete, a technique that interested and influenced later architects such as le Corbusier. The present building (an earlier one constructed of wood burned down following an arson attack) was opened in 1928, unfortunately after Steiner’s death.
Anthroposophy means ‘the wisdom of the human being’ ; it aims to connect the spritual element in Man with the spiritual in the universe as a whole.
Most visitors to Dornach head for the ruined castle on the hill, perhaps not realising that a historic piece of impressionist architecture is open to the public every day, 08.00 to 22.00, with 80 minute guided tours.

Grocery Shopping in Switzerland
I got asked to stop filming!!! Hahahah....must be more stealthy next time although that's kind of hard with the big open spaces and staff members everywhere. Just a note, this is a really big store - most grocery stores here are not quite as big as this but many metropolitan areas have one or two of these megastores where you can also find a restaurant, a phone store, electronics, home hardware and a drugstore beside the grocery.
Something I didn't address: the prices. Food prices in Switzerland are among the highest in all of Europe, for example much higher than in neighbouring countries like Germany or France. However, the quality of the food is in some ways also higher. Much of the meat comes from Swiss farms, and although the cost of having livestock in an expensive country like Switzerland is exorbitant, the quality of the meat is also really amazing. Organic food is very popular in Switzerland with usually a very large assortment available at all the big chain grocers. All organic food must be officially certified by an independent commission, and the criteria for becoming an organic farmer are very stringent. Swiss people in general care a lot about their food, where it comes from, the quality of the meat and produce, and the conditions the animals live in. However, all this comes at a pretty hefty price. Sometimes I wish food was cheaper and that Switzerland allowed more foreign imports to bring down prices, but on the other hand I think it is great that supporting Swiss farmers helps to keep up a high standard of food grade, versus cheap mass imports that are of inferior quality.

Tram highlights of a visit to the wonderful city of Basel.
0:01- Dense traffic at Bankverein, with several vehicle types.
0:58- Riding a DÜWAG GT6. You can hear the puffing of the pneumatic brakes.
1:26- In the way to Rodersdorf with route 10. Nice to see the trams overtaking the cars on the road parallel to the tracks!
1:44- This is France! Route 10 runs a short bit through Elsace to arrive back to Switzerland. The passenegr information system even announces that the stop is located in another country - how many other tram services do something like that? :)
2:00- Very busy minutes at Barfüsserplatz - trams coming and going in short distance to each other. Note that there's no traffic lights controlling this junction!
2:53- Trams around Mittlere Brücke and Schiffslände. The green trams belogn to the municipal system operated by BVB, the yellow ones are more like a vicinal (but also running in the city), operated by BLT. Can you count, how many types you see, in how many combination?
4:14- Marktplatz - more vehicle combinations :)
4:45- Spalentor
4:54- A tram climbing up at Kohlenberg.
5:20- Some night shots in a narrow street
6:05- A Combino running htrough a reversing loop. The vehicle must have a flange lubrication device, because it does not screech in the bend. Interestingly Basel trams are much quieter than the trams in Zürich in general...

Yesterday I photographed an old Swiss tradition held on St martin's day every year called Gansabhauet.
They hang a dead goose by the neck from a wire (like a clothes line). A participant is randomly chosen, blindfolded, given a red robe and a golden mask to cover his / her face,
They are then led to where the goose is hanging and have one chance to try and separate the goose from its body using a sabre! One swipe only.
In between this event, they have a face pulling contest for the kids who receive cheese for their best efforts and a sack race where the kids jump their way to Swiss cervelat sausages , again hung from wire, where they have to take a bite without touching them with their hands!
Another event for the kids is to climb up a massive wooden pole and snatch a present from the top.
