Elkhart is a city in Elkhart County, Indiana, United States. The city is located 15 miles east of South Bend, Indiana, 110 miles east of Chicago, Illinois, and 150 miles north of Indianapolis, Indiana. Elkhart has the larger population of the two principal cities of the Elkhart-Goshen Metropolitan Statistical Area, which in turn is part of the South Bend-Elkhart-Mishawaka Combined Statistical Area, in a region commonly known as Michiana. The population was 50,949 at the 2010 census. Despite the shared name, it is not the county seat of Elkhart County; that position is held by the city of Goshen, located about 10 miles southeast of Elkhart.

    The National New York Central Railroad Museum is a railroad museum located in Elkhart, Indiana dedicated to the preservation of the New York Central Railroad . The museum includes several outdoor equipment displays, indoor model railroads, artifacts from the NYC and other railroad related exhibits including educational displays pertaining to the history of railroading. The museum is currently expanding its dedication to the preservation of both local and national railroad heritage. The museum consists of a modified NYC 20th Century Limited train set and freight house built by the Lake Shore & Michigan Southern Railway in 1907.

    The Midwest Museum of American Art is a non-profit public art museum located in downtown Elkhart, Indiana, United States. The museum's 25,000-square-foot space houses a collection focusing on 19th and 20th century American art. Its collection includes selections of Abstract expressionism, American Impressionism, the Chicago Imagists, Overbeck art pottery, Pop art, Regionalism, the Ashcan School, and Western art . Artworks in the collection include works by Norman Rockwell, Hans Hofmann, Edward Moran, Roger Brown, Grant Wood, Arthur Bowen Davies, Ralph Albert Blakelock and many others. Each fall the museum hosts the Elkhart Juried Regional competition. The museum publishes a quarterly newsletter and published its first Catalogue of the Permanent Collection in 2004.

    The Wild Bunch, also known as the Doolin–Dalton Gang or the Oklahombres, were a gang of American outlaws based in the Indian Territory that were active in Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, and Oklahoma Territory during the 1890s—robbing banks and stores, holding up trains, and killing lawmen. They were also known as The Oklahoma Long Riders because of the long dusters that they wore. Of all the outlaw gangs produced by the American Old West , none met a more violent end than the Wild Bunch. Only two of its eleven members survived into the 20th century, and all eleven met violent deaths in gun battles with lawmen.
