It is a suburban bedroom community located on Long Island. The population was 33,198 at the 2010 census. Elmont is famous for Belmont Park which hosts the Belmont Stakes, the third leg of the prestigious Triple Crown of thoroughbred racing.

The center is owned by Premium Outlets, a subsidiary of Simon Property Group, and takes its name from the town in which it is located.
