The French Alps are the portions of the Alps mountain range that stand within France, located in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur regions. While some of the ranges of the French Alps are entirely in France, others, such as the Mont Blanc massif, are shared with Switzerland and Italy. At 4,808 metres , Mont Blanc , on the French-Italian border, is the highest mountain in the Alps, and the highest Western European mountain.Notable towns in the French Alps include Grenoble, Chamonix, Annecy, Chambéry, Évian-les-Bains and Albertville.

  • 1. Lac de Serre-Poncon Savines Le Lac
    Lake Serre-Ponçon is a reservoir in the departments of Hautes-Alpes and Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, in southeast France, one of the largest in Western Europe. The lake gathers the waters of the Durance and the Ubaye rivers, flowing down through the Hautes-Alpes and the Alpes du Sud to the Rhône River. The waters are dammed by the Barrage de Serre-Ponçon, a 123-metre high earth core dam. As well as water control, sixteen hydroelectric plants use the water , and the lake provides irrigation to 1,500 square kilometres of land.

  • 4. Col de l'Echelle Nevache
    Col de l'Échelle is a mountain pass in the Alps in the department of Hautes-Alpes in France. It is the lower mountain pass between France and Italy and connects Vallée de la Clarée and Vallée Étroite . The highest point between both valleys is actually at 1779 meter, some kilometers north of the official Col de l'Échelle at the Mauvais Pas. Between both cols, a small dry valley exists. The col is next to Bardonecchia in Italy.
