The Schmittenhöhe is a mountain, 1,965 m high, on the eastern edge of the Kitzbühel Alps. It is the local mountain of the district capital of Zell am See, from where a cable car was built in 1927 by Adolf Bleichert & Co. that runs to the summit. The cable car system has been renovated several times since. From the summit of the Schmittenhöhe there is a good view of over 30 three-thousanders as well as the lake of Zeller See, the river basin and the whole Saalach valley. The Schmittenhöhe has pistes for winter sports. From the Schmittenhöhe numerous long-distance flights may be made by paraglider into the Pinzgau region whose straight, east-west orientation enables long flights to be made.

Lake Fuschl am see is a 4km long and 1km wide with a max depth of over 60m. The lake is located in the Salzkammergut region of Austria. There are a number of accommodation options on the east side of the lake, the west side is known for sun bathers as there are many hideaways and secluded areas to be isolated with the nature! People usually rent electric boats and occupy a little beach surrounded by trees and mountains.

The area is good for family picnics and many other sports including hiking in the well maintained paths and of course swimming as the lake is very clean and it has a drinkable quality (I wouldn't drink from it) but this is what everyone says! All the boats in the lake are running by electric motors so the water remains clean and not hurting the marine environment with the noise too, I bet fish are so happy about that; I was able to see them from the boat as some areas of the lake has crystal clear waters and you can see the bottom. We did enjoy a half day in this lovely lake, rented a boat (If not mistaken Euro 5-10) located behind Hotel Seerose, had lunch in Restaurant Stiegl (spaghetti, green salad, nuggets, boiled eggs, 3 soft drinks = Euro 31).

Fuschl see is 18km away from Salzburg, 50km from Berchtesgaden and 291km from Vienna. I would make Salzburg as a base to visit the area. Please have a look at below photo album, click for captions.
