Gifu Prefecture is a prefecture in the Chūbu region of central Japan. Its capital is the city of Gifu.Located in the center of Japan, it has long played an important part as the crossroads of Japan, connecting the east to the west through such routes as the Nakasendō. During the Sengoku period, many people referred to Gifu by saying, control Gifu and you control Japan.Gifu was a long-term residence of both Oda Nobunaga and Saitō Dōsan.

  • 4. Kashimori Shrine Gifu
    Kashimori Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in the city of Gifu, Gifu Prefecture, Japan. From long ago, it has been considered a good place for married couples and children to go for good luck. One legend associated with Kashimori Shrine is that when Tenma, a mythical horse, landed behind the shrine, it left a hoof print in stone that can still be seen today. Each year, on April 5, the shrine hosts the Gifu Festival, along with Inaba Shrine and Kogane Shrine.

  • 7. Ochiai Honjin Nakatsugawa
    Ochiai-juku was the forty-fourth of the sixty-nine stations of the Nakasendō. It is located in the present-day city of Nakatsugawa, Gifu Prefecture, Japan. The honjin and the sub-honjin, as well as some old street lights, remain from the Edo period. The Honjin were the main rest areas in old post towns and very few remain today. There are ten hills that must be traversed to get to Ochiai-juku from the preceding post town of Magome-juku.
