Gravelbourg is a small multicultural town in south central Saskatchewan, Canada. It is located just west of the Wood River at the junction of provincial Highway 43 and Highway 58, approximately 125 kilometres from Moose Jaw, Swift Current, and the United States border. The region served as a path for First Nations peoples many years ago, and was also integrated into the Redcoat Trail of the 19th century. The Big Muddy Badlands are a series of badlands in southern Saskatchewan and northern Montana along Big Muddy Creek. They are found in the Big Muddy Valley, a cleft of erosion and sandstone along Big Muddy Creek. The valley is 55 kilometres long, 3.2 kilometres wide and 160 metres deep. The valley was formed when it was part of an ancient glacial meltwater channel that carried great quantities of water southeastward during the last ice age. In the nineteenth and early twentieth century the Badlands formed the northern end of the Outlaw Trail, a series of trails and stopping areas utilized by outlaws in the American West spanning from Canada to Mexico. It is located in the valley of the South Saskatchewan River and the west end of Lake Diefenbaker, about 50 km north of Swift Current, Saskatchewan. The park is 5,735 hectares in size.The park is centered around the South Saskatchewan River, which forms the west end of Lake Diefenbaker. In the valley, there are coulees leading up the prairies. Popular activities include hiking, swimming, and fishing.

Gravelbourg est une ville qui fut construite en 1916. Elle est située le long d'un embranchement du chemin de fer du Canadien Pacifique, à 119 km au sud-ouest de Moose Jaw. La ville a été baptisée du nom du père Louis-Joseph-Pierre Gravel (1868-1926), missionnaire colonisateur qui s'y était établi en 1906 avec cinq frères et une soeur. Gravel a sollicité la venue d'autres immigrants du Québec et de francophones de la Nouvelle-Angleterre, espérant créer un certain nombre d'établissements français dans la région.
