Visit Macedonia - Kastoria County.
The Prefecture of Kastoria is located at the west end of Western Macedonia, bordering with the prefectures of Florina, Grevena, Kozani and Ioannina, as well as with Albania, to the west.
The city of Kastoria unfolds amphitheatrically 620 metres above sea level. It is built on a peninsula that penetrates Orestiada Lake, in the shade of the impressive mass of Grammos and Vitsi Mountains. According to the last census, the population of the Prefecture is 53.483 inhabitants, 20.636 of whom live in the city.
Kastoria is connected with Athens by air, through the Aristotle International Airport at Argos Orestikon. The Prefecture is nowadays easily accessed via Egnatia Highway. Alternatively, one can always use the old national road.

Macedonia today is a geographical region of Greece, and the largest of the Greek territory.
It constitutes most of the geographic and historical region of ancient Macedon, a Greek kingdom ruled by the Argeads whose most celebrated members were Alexander the Great and his father Philip II.
In 336 B.C., Alexander the Great became the leader of the Greek kingdom of Macedonia. By the time he died 13 years later, Alexander had built an empire that stretched from Greece all the way to India. That brief but thorough empire-building campaign changed the world: It spread Greek ideas and culture from the Eastern Mediterranean to Asia. Historians call this era the Hellenistic period.
The name Macedonia was later applied to identify various administrative areas in the Roman and Byzantine Empires with widely differing borders.

Gythio, Peloponnese - Greece HD
Gythio is a seaside town on the south of Peloponnese. It is the capital of Mani, a mountainous and barren area known for its brave fighters during the Greek War of Independence. Many sandy beaches and interesting sightseeing surround this lovely town. Mavrovouni is the most famous beach of Gythio, while very nice beaches are also Selinitsa and Ageranos. A short walk from the port of Gythio leads to the islet of Kranae where is the Historical Museum. In short drive from Gythio are nice places, such as the Caves of Diros, the town of Areopolis and the fishing village of Gerolimenas.

My trip in Siatista City Greece 6/1/2016

Situated between Kozani and Grevena, on the southwest foothills of Mount Vermion, the city of Siatista is well hidden in a crevice of the slopes of Mount Siniatsiko, facing the south. Only Siatista’s vineyards which are stretched on the east side of this crevice notify the passer-by about the existence of a settlement in the area. The rubble limestone slopes would probably lead to the impression that vine-trees are cultivated in Siatista since the beginning of times, although, evidently the city did not become a winery centre until after the Ottoman presence in the area. In the early days, Siatista, being built at an altitude of approximately 970m high, was no more than a settlement of Vlachoi, a bucolic greek tribe speaking a latin-originated language.
Starting the end of the last century Siatista had practically no motive at all to keep up with the latest progress in the field of winery. When phylloxera struck France, the French merchands began to dust the frail pages of their old travelling and winery books where they discovered references of Siatista. It was referred as Chatista or Schatista and the comments were truly exclamatory. In a post-modern publication of Julien’s book the wines of Siatista are called “the best wines in Macedonia”, exactly like the times of Pouqueville.
However the grape type which shows specific interest, when it comes to Siatista, is the so-called Moshomavro, the Black Muskat for the Oxident. The Moshomavro grape is of great significance because it is the base of the most famous wine of Siatista, the sweet Liastos Vin. “The good fame of the mutton and the hare of Siatista is only prevailed be the fame of its wines, which are produced by every family in a unique way, so that they conclude to the outmost magnificence presenting the LiastosVin. (Leonhard Schultze, Makedonien, 1927). In the beginning of our century the liastos wine was sold ten time more expensively than the notorious red sec wine of the town.

Η Σιάτιστα είναι μια πανέμορφη Κωμόπολη που διατηρεί το παραδοσιακό της χρώμα. Η μεγάλη ακμή της πόλης ήταν το 18ο- 19ο αιώνα όπου άνθισε το εμπόριο, η γουνοποιία και η αμπελουργία. Την οικονομική της άνθιση μαρτυρούν τα πανέμορφα αρχοντικά σπίτια, οι εκκλησίες και τα σχολειά της. Στην πόλη αυτή ζούσαν πριν εκατομμύρια χρόνια μαμούθ και πολλά ευρήματα μόλις πρόσφατα ανακαλύφθηκαν με τη διάνοιξη της Εναντίας οδού. Επισκεπτόμαστε το μουσείο παλαιοντολογίας και την κάτω και πάνω πόλη με τις θαυμάσιες εκκλησίες της.
