Explore Bologna, Italy. Top Things to do in the City!
We explore the amazing Northern Italian city of Bologna, the capital of the Emilia-Romagna region.
We start the day at the Giardini Margherita and then walk up to the church San Michele in Bosco to find the best views over the city.
After that we head back down to the main part of town making our way through the city’s famous porticos (covered walkways) to the main square Plaza Maggiore where we check out the outside of the amazing church Basilica di San Petronio.
Later we got some serious exercise by climbing the Asinelli tower (the smaller, leaning tower next to it is Tower Garisenda. It is 97 metres high and took about 10 minutes to get to the top, the views were beautiful but it was very crowded!
Lastly we go find the small canals in Bologna, and in particular the small peaking window the gives you a glimpse of the canals (La Piccola Venezia).

Bologna:
Often left aside on travel plans in favour of more famous Italian cities, such as Rome, Venice and Milan, Bologna has plenty to offer tourists, from amazing traditional Italian food and art.
Bologna is a historical city, with around 380,000 inhabitants. Although it is well known by Italians, it is less so among foreign visitors. Little English is spoken by its residents. It is the capital and largest city of Emilia-Romagna (a region in northern Italy). Bologna is famed for having the oldest university in the Western world, a lively student population, exquisite food, typical brick terracotta-roofed architecture and porticos, theatre and nightlife.
Bologna is famous for its cuisine (la cucina Bolognese). It is also viewed as a progressive and well administered city. It is considered second only to Venice in beauty by many Italians
Emilia Romagna Region:
Emilia Romagna lies between the River Po to its north and the Apennine Mountains (to its south). It is one of the most fertile and productive regions of Italy, thanks to the mitigating effect that the Adriatic Sea has on the coastal climate.
The diversity between the mountains and sea offers visitors to Emilia Romagna breathtaking views, in addition to beauty for both the eyes and spirit, with a mixture of the earthy colors, the aromas and the fresh sea air. Not to mention that Emilia Romagna is a hotbed for music, cinema and art appreciated nationally and internationally.
Giardini Margherita:
Giardini Margherita is the largest and certainly the most popular city park. It was designed by the Piedmontese Sambuy to provide Bologna with an ample green and public place as in other Italian and European cities. It was opened in 1879 with the name of “Passeggio Regina Margherita” ( as a tribute to the wife of King Umberto I).
San Michele in Bosco:
San Michele in Bosco is a religious complex in Bologna, central Italy, including the church with the same name and the annexed Olivetan monastery. The latter was acquired in 1955 by the municipality of Bologna, to house an orthopedic center named the Rizzoli Orthopedic Institute (l'Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli).
Plaza Maggiore:
Piazza Maggiore is located in the very centre of Bologna. In the past, the square underwent many changes and was embellished with important buildings: the Basilica di San Petronio, Palazzo dei Notai, Palazzo d'Accursio, Palazzo del Podestà and Palazzo dei Bianchi.
Basilica di San Petronio:
Named in honour of Bologna patron saint Petronio - 8th bishop of the city from 431 to 450, the Basilica is the most imposing (a length of 132m, a width of 66m, a height of 47m) and important church in Bologna.

Lake Louise,Banff,Canada:
Lake Louise is a hamlet in Alberta, Canada within Improvement District No. 9 Banff (Banff National Park). It is named for the nearby Lake Louise, which in turn was named after the Princess Louise Caroline Alberta (1848--1939), the fourth daughter of Queen Victoria, and the wife of John Campbell, the 9th Duke of Argyll, who was the Governor General of Canada from 1878 to 1883. The province of Alberta is also named for Princess Louise.
Emerald Lake is one of the most admired destinations in Yoho National Park, with an unmatched diversity of both activities and landscapes suited to the enthusiastic traveler. It was discovered in 1882, when famed mountain guide Tom Wilson was led lakeside while rounding up a group of horses that had gone astray, and was immediately taken by the vivid Emerald-coloured waters.
Lake Emreald:
Here the vegetation is quite stunning, with several different microclimates suiting a new collection of sensitive plant species, making for some impressively delicate floral displays. The moist, shady enclaves common to the Emerald Lake region make it one of the best places to spot a variety of tiny, fragile wild orchids that survive only in finely balanced conditions. If you're paying attention, you may be rewarded with a Yellow Lady Slipper, Spotted Orchid, or Calypso sighting.
An Outing at Emerald Lake
The hike around the lake, clocking in at about an hour, is one of the least strenuous but most rewarding in the park. An incredible breadth of geological features can be viewed from the lake, including the world-famous Burgess Shale fossil beds, the Michael glacier, and an avalanche slope carpeted by meadows where moose often graze.
Emerald Lake is a fantastic place to see wildlife, as animals are drawn to the important water source. Bald eagles, moose, and ospreys are a common sight, as are waterfowl such as loons and mergansers.The vibrant waters of Emerald LakeHiking isn't the only way to see Emerald Lake, however. Canoe and rowboat rentals are available at Emerald Sports, as are cross-country skis and snowshoes in the winter. Fishing at Emerald Lake is also quite popular during the summer months. Swimming comes highly recommended for the experience, but is not for the faint of heart. The water is cold! The more leisurely delight of having lunch at the lakeside patio does the trick for some, as well. Picnic areas and the Emerald Sports gift shop are also easily found.
Emerald Lake is easily accessible from Field by a 10-minute car ride, or by biking or cross-country skiing along the Tally Ho trail, depending on the season. Be sure to make a stop at the Natural Bridge viewpoint on the way!

It is located 641 kilometers (398 mi) east of Vancouver, and 415 kilometers (258 mi) west of Calgary, Alberta. The Royal Palace in Brussels - Belgium 4K Travel Channel
The Royal Palace lies in the heart of Brussels. During one of our walks we see that it is opened to the public. We are surprised that the admission is free and very pleased that filming is permitted. Since 1965 it is tradition that the Brussels royal palace opens its gates for visitors for some weeks during summer.
The palace was built on the remains of the Coudenberg palace, which was destroyed almost completely by a fire, in 1731. The Coudenberg palace was the former court the Herzöge of Brabant and served the Burgundians and Habsburgs as residence. Today, remnants can be seen in Belvue Museum.
After the independence of Belgium, it became the residence of King Leopold I. In 1904, Leopold II extended the palace to its present form. Today, the Royal Palace in Brussels, the symbol for the constitutional monarchy, is only used for work and representation purposes. The royal family now lives in Laeken Castle, located in the Park right next to the Atomium.
In the neo-baroque building you see the offices of the king and the queen and some offices of some senior Labour Cabinet and Head of Protocol. Various state rooms are still used for receptions.
Every year, different exhibitions are shown in the palace. In 2014, on the occasion of the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the first World War, it was a historical exhibition about the Belgian royal couple Albert and Elisabeth in the context of the first world war, vividly presented with film documents. Furthermore, documents, pictures, uniforms, medals and other paraphernalia of the royal dynasty are displayed. Episodes from the Congo until the Second World War are presented from the point of view of the royal family.
A highlight is the Mirror Room. In 2002, the ceiling and the chandelier were covered with 1.6 million green shimmering shells of Buprestidae beetles, a non-protected species. The so-called Heaven of Delight is a project of the artist Jan Fabre.

Der Königliche Palast liegt im Herzen von Brüssel. Bei einem unserer Spaziergänge kommen wir vorbei und bemerken, dass er für die Öffentlichkeit geöffnet ist. Noch mehr waren wir überrascht, dass der Eintritt frei und filmen erlaubt ist. Seit 1965 ist es Tradition, dass der Brüsseler Königspalast im Sommer seine Tore für Besucher öffnet.
Der Palast wurde über den Resten des Palastes vom Coudenberg errichtet, der 1731 durch ein Feuer fast vollständig zerstört wurde. Der zerstörte Palast war der ehemalige Hof der Herzöge von Brabant und diente den Burgundern und Habsburgern als Herrschaftssitz. Heute können davon nur noch Reste im Belvue Museum besichtigt werden.
Das Gebäude wurde von König Leopold I., nach der Unabhängigkeit Belgiens, als Residenz gewählt. 1904 wurde der Palast von Leopold II. in seiner heutigen Form ausgebaut. Der Brüsseler Königspalast, das Symbol für die konstitutionelle Monarchie, wir nur noch zu Arbeits- und Repräsentationszwecken verwendet. Die königliche Familie wohnt heute im Schloss Laeken, im Park der unmittelbar neben dem Atomium liegt.
In dem neobarocken Gebäude findet man neben den königlichen Arbeitszimmern auch Büros einiger hochrangiger Kabinetts- und Protokollchefs. In den verschiedenen Prunksälen finden auch heute noch festliche Empfänge statt.
Jährlich gibt es unterschiedliche Ausstellungen. In 2014, anlässlich der Gedenkfeierlichkeiten zum 100. Jahrestag des 1. Weltkriegs, wird eine historische Ausstellung über das belgische Königspaar Albert und Elisabeth, u.a. im Kontext des 1. Weltkriegs anhand von Filmdokumenten anschaulich präsentiert. Außerdem werden Dokumente, Bilder, Uniformen, Orden und andere Utensilien der königlichen Dynastie gezeigt. Episoden vom Kongo bis zum Zweiten Weltkrieg werden aus Sicht des Königshauses dargestellt.
Ein Highlight ist sicherlich der Spiegelsaal. In 2002 wurde die Decke und der Leuchter in der Mitte mit 1,4 Millionen grün schillernden Panzern von thailändischen Skarabäen, einer ungeschützten Tierart, bedeckt. Der sogenannte Heaven of Delight ist ein Projekt des Künstlers Jan Fabre.
