Jericho is a hamlet and census-designated place in Nassau County, New York on the North Shore of Long Island, about 29 miles east of Midtown Manhattan. Its population was 13,567 as of the United States 2010 Census. The area is served by the Jericho Union Free School District and the Syosset Central School District, the boundaries of which differ somewhat from those of the hamlet. The boundaries of the Jericho Post Office vary from both the hamlet and the school district boundaries, notably by including a portion of Jericho in the Westbury zip code, and the inclusion of a portion of Syosset in the Jericho zip code.

  • 1. Snowflake Bentley Museum Jericho
    Wilson Alwyn Snowflake Bentley is one of the first known photographers of snowflakes. He perfected a process of catching flakes on black velvet in such a way that their images could be captured before they either melted or sublimated. Kenneth G. Libbrecht notes that the techniques used by Bentley to photograph snowflakes are essentially the same as used today, and that while the quality of his photographs reflects the technical limitations of the equipment of the era, he did it so well that hardly anybody bothered to photograph snowflakes for almost 100 years. The broadest collection of Bentley's photographs is held by the Jericho Historical Society in his home town, Jericho, Vermont.
