Melnik is the smallest city in Bulgaria, and probably the cutest darned city too. It's well-known for distributing wine (which is stored and fermented in the caverns below the city).
I arrived in Melnik after a full day of hopping buses from Borovets to Samokov, from Samokov to Blagoevgrad, Blagoevgrad to Sandanski, and Sandanski to Melnik.
In Melnik I had a fantastic dinner for just $3 USD. If you're looking for a budget or cheap travel destination in Bulgaria, Melnik should be on your list!

The beautiful city of Plovdiv is the second largest city in Bulgaria and it attracts many tourists every year with its ancient roman history. The town is also called The city of the seven hills and its motto is Ancient and eternal. You can see a lot of roman ruins - some of the most famous are the ancient Roman theatre and the ancient Stadium, located downtown Plovdiv. The city combines the modern and the antique.

Melnik, the smallest town in Bulgaria
Melnik is the smallest town in Bulgaria. It is a proclaimed cultural-historical reserve and a museum-town. It combines nature and rocks flocked around the houses perching on hills, history, culture and wine.
Gabrovo (Габрово) longest town in Bulgaria
Gabrovo (Габрово) is the longest town in Bulgaria and also home to the House of Humour that serves as a cultural institute, a centre, museum and gallery to popularise comic art. There is also a cinema, Aleko Cinema, and a number of museums and menorial houses both in the town and around it, most notably the Etar Architectural-Ethnographic Complex and the National Museum of Education at the Aprilov National High School. A planetarium is also in operation.
