Situated among the forests of Sandomierz Wilderness in the Subcarpathian Voivodship , it is the capital of Kolbuszowa County. Kolbuszowa belongs to historic Lesser Poland, near its border with another historic region, Red Ruthenia.

Its current size is 84.83 km2 , of which forests occupy 81.02 km², and strictly protected areas 8.06 km². The park has its headquarters in Zwierzyniec.
