In this video I am going to show you how the weather changes in Croatia in autumn months of September and October. I will walk and drive you around Rijeka and show you a not-so-typical video for tourists.
I love Croatia, it is a beautiful country to travel to and vacation at. I have often missed my country while living abroad for many years, that is why I am happy to share these videos with you.

Ancient Romans called Rab - Felix Arba, which is Lucky Rab. Perhaps this is why town has never been badly damaged in its turbulent past. The beautiful old town is full of historic sites and on the island there are some of the most beautiful sandy beaches on the Adriatic. From this town originates St. Marin, founder of the city-state of San Marino.

Rijeka is the biggest city of the northern Adriatic Sea and is also the largest Croatian port. With a number of interesting museums and galleries, we visited a very interesting museum of old computers. On the hill above Rijeka there is the biggest sanctuary in Croatia - Trsat. Near Rijeka there is Kastav, a small medieval town that is well maintained to this day.

Rijeka's Beaches

Thanks to the Mediterranean climate, the bathing season in Rijeka begins in spring and lasts until late autumn. Two Rijeka beaches, Ploče and Kostanj are the proud owners of Blue Flags, the finest proof of the cleanliness of Rijeka's sea. The sea is clean and blue, the sun is drawn here and the beaches are numerous, diverse, large and noisy, small and secluded, pebbly, concrete, rocky, hidden...
With regard to the city location, Rijeka’s beaches are located to the far eastern and to the far western parts of the city. On the eastern side, at Pećine there are eight beaches, most of which are only a few minutes away from the city centre. On the western part, you can find your ideal beach from Kantrida to Preluk - there are five beaches on Kantrida, and if you do not like sea water you can take a swim and sunbathe in the Kantrida Pools, the largest and most beautiful swimming pool complex in Croatia. There are a whole series of larger and smaller beaches and bays from Bivio to Preluk, which are connected by a promenade with numerous facilities, from catering and sport amenities to parks for children located in the shade of the vegetation. These beaches are ideal for those who, besides sunbathing and bathing, enjoy sporting activities at the seaside too. Thanks to its very specific position and the wind that blows there, Preluk beach is famous and a favourite beach of surfers. Also, smaller, nameless beaches can be found here together with hidden bays and beaches for those who prefer being in a more secluded area. Some of them are only reachable from the sea.
City buses drive to all beaches. The beach can be found just a few minutes’ walk from the bus station and there is free car parking close to all the beaches.

Advent in Croatia | Saint Nicholas Celebration in CROATIA
This vlog was filmed in Croatia, in a small and lovely coastal
municipality called Kostrena, near Rijeka. The patron saint of the town is St. Nicholas, or, Sveti Nikola in Croatian language. In the local dialect people call him Mikula or Mikulna, therefore the name of this annual celebration taking place in Kostrena is Mikulna. The celebration lasted 3 days, 6th, 7th and 8th of December 2018, while the St. Nicholas day is officially 6th December.
St. Nicholas is a patron of small children and sailors, for which this coastal town is known. Everyone here has a strong connection to the sea. In the entire Croatia, it is a big custom to gift children presents on St. Nicholas day, well, he does that himself, similarly to Santa Claus. On the night from the 5th to the 6th of December the children clean their boots and put them close to the window. During the night, Sveti Nikola comes if they were well behaved and leaves them a present, and if they didn't behave well during the year, black Krampus comes and leaves only some branches for the children (a reminder for the old punishment for children who didn't behave well).
This celebration is a new tradition in Kostrena, and the main event of the entire year. This event marks the beginning of the celebrations taking place in Croatia in December: Christmas and New Year.
