The city of Nimes makes a very attractive place to visit with its quiet pedestrian lanes running through the center, and especially because of the three major Roman historic sites. There is an ancient temple, there is a large amphitheater, nearby is the famous aqueduct, Pont du Gard. Nimes is located in the south of France. Quite nearby are the cities of Arles and Avignon and just further east, you've got Aix and Marseille.

We are arriving in Nîmes this morning by train from Avignon and will be taking you on a walking tour of the city.
Upon arrival in Nimes train station and walk a few blocks along the main busy street, Avenue Feucheres, to a shady park, and just beyond to the star attraction of town and the world’s best-preserved ancient Roman amphitheater, the most important structure in town. It forms an ellipse, 145 yards long and 115 yards wide, and it’s 70 feet high. Although it's smaller than the amphitheater in Rome, the great Coliseum or even the amphitheater in Arles, it's actually in better preservation than any of them. The arena is built of limestone blocks that are as large as 10 feet wide, perfectly adjusted without any mortar to hold it together, in that ancient Roman style. The exterior presents two stories each of sixty arches.
This two thousand-year-old city has developed in a typically European-style with narrow lanes for pedestrians meandering in a casual grid that makes a delightful place to walk. It's an extensive zone of shops and cafés extending north of the arena, with the main lane of Rue de l’Aspic running ten blocks through its center.
While the historic sites are attractive you'll also find the shopping zone very enjoyable, just meandering and people-watching.
Paris, France - Video Tour of Les Grands Boulevards
Hello and welcome to another New York Habitat video tour ( ). Today, we will be giving you a tour of Les Grands Boulevards, a fantastic neighborhood of Paris with both amazing day and night life.
Les Grands Boulevards (the big boulevards) start at Place de la République and end at the prestigious Grands Magasins.
From Charles V, in the 14th century, to Napoleon III's modification of Paris, the Boulevards, famous for their theaters, offer 600 years of Paris' History. From 1853 to 1870, le Baron Haussmann was obsessed with the culture of straight lines and transformed the old Paris of Charles V into the one you can still see today, the Paris of Napoleon III.
The magnificent Opera of Charles Garnier (1875) is a good starting point to explore the Boulevard lifestyle of the 19th century. This piece of architecture, easily spotted by its large dome, is a place to go enjoy a ballet or some lyrical singing. Book a seat to admire the ceiling, painted by Marc Chagall in 1964, during your visit.
Walk down the Boulevard des Capucines and you will reach the Madeleine Church. The neo-classical building, which is one of Paris' most famous churches, took nearly a century to construct.
Le Musée Grévin is a living theatre of wax celebrities, which includes the first man on the moon and Brad Pitt. At the end stop for a drink at the museum's brand new. If you like you can have your Perrier served by the King himself, Elvis!
The Porte Saint-Denis and the Porte Saint-Martin are two grandiose archways, at the end of the Grand Boulevards, used to mark the entrance of Louis XIV's Paris. The Sun King always knew how to deal with his armies and the two triumph arcs are here to remember it forever. The Porte Saint-Denis and the Porte Saint-Martin illustrate the victories of the French army.
After the Porte Saint-Denis, the street turns into a faubourg or a neighborhood, the Faubourg Saint-Denis. This colorful street is full of fruit and vegetable vendors, wine shops and cool cafés, such as Chez Jeanette (47 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Denis). It is a great place to buy some food and cook it in your New York Habitat vacation rental ( ). Stop for an apéritif at one of the numerous cafés of the Faubourg Saint-Denis and take in the relaxing atmosphere of the 10th arrondissement.
The Galeries Lafayette (40 Boulevard Haussmann) and Printemps, just next door, are the fashion malls of Paris. You will not only appreciate the huge selection of the hottest brand names in fashion, but you will be amazed by the building housing the Galeries Lafayette itself.
With tons of brasseries, cafés and restaurants, the Grands Boulevards provide an endless supply of culinary pleasures. However, French cuisine is not the only reward after a day of exploring. It is also a nice place for terraces and night clubs. Food fans should also check out the Chocolate Museum on Boulevard de Bonne Nouvelle.
Here are a few of David Hill's favorites: Chez Jeanette (47 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Denis), Racines (8 Passage des Panoramas), Le Grand Café (4 Boulevard des Capucines), Chartier (7 Rue du Faubourg Montmartre), and le Musée du chocolat (28 Boulevard de Bonne Nouvelle).
If you are looking for some nightlife excitement, start at De La Ville café, an ancient steam bath of Paris (34 Boulevard de Bonne Nouvelle). Then, head to the mythical Rex Club, which is famous for having the best DJs in the world. You will find it next to the monumental Rex Movie Theater (5 Boulevard Poissonnière).

Meet the new Parisian water fountains!
Everyone knows the iconic Wallace fountains, a gift to the city of Paris by English art collector and philanthropist Richard Wallace in the second half of the 19th century, when water supplies had been damaged during the siege of Paris by Prussia (leading to the French defeat of 1870,) and the Commune insurrection in1871. The rumor has it the City of Paris is planning to phase the iconic fountains out, (cue in uproar, as these fountains are an integral part of the Paris cityscape.) There are several types of fountains in the French capital. In 2018, Paris introduced fountains dispensing flat and sparkling water. They can be hard to find. I used one in le Parc Montsouris (14th arrondissement) last year, and found another one by popular Canal St Martin earlier this week. L' eau pétillante (sparkling water) is delicious and super refreshing -- as les Riverains (locals) know full well. Drink up!

[Atout France en Scandinavie] Midnight in France 2016
Atout France a convié les prescripteurs de l’industrie du tourisme en Scandinavie sur les segments haut-de-gamme et MICE lors de trois soirées d’exception à Copenhague, Stockholm et Oslo.
Un moment de networking suivi d’un apéritif Pernod-Ricard aux accents de Gipsy-jazz puis d’un dîner au Champagne préparé par le talentueux jeune chef Pierre Sang a été offert aux 145 convives présents sur les trois villes.
Parmi eux, des tour-opérateurs haut-de-gamme, des agences MICE et quelques responsables des comptes voyages de grandes entreprises scandinaves.
Atout France en Scandinavie organisait pour la troisième fois ce format d’événement dédié à une cible exigeante. Cette année, une dizaine d’exposants français, couvrant le transport, l'hébergement (hôtels 4-5* et palaces), et des destinations, ont fait le déplacement et pu concrétiser des contacts déjà prometteurs.
A Copenhague, c’est l’ambassade de France qui a accueilli Midnight in France et son partenaire DS. Ce dernier a assuré des transferts personnalisés pour quelques invités privilégiés et exposé différents modèles de DS, classiques ou contemporains.
A Oslo, le lieu sélectionné était le Musée National ou Nationalgalleriet où est exposé le Cri de Munch, artiste norvégien.
Le chef parisien Pierre Sang a suivi l’événement sur les trois villes pour un menu réalisé en partenariat avec Laurent Perrier, Valrhôna et Mauviel.

Bangkok is home to over eight million people. As you'll find, the city has a lot of expats from all over the world. I get why some people get overwhelmed by Bangkok. It's swelteringly hot, loud, chaotic and quite different from most Western countries. Once you get off the beaten path though you'll find that Bangkok is a city full of surprises. No matter what you want to do, see or buy it's available. Temples, red light districts, sky bars, museums, art galleries, parks...You name it, the city has it.
