Lesotho officially the Kingdom of Lesotho is an enclaved country in southern Africa. It is just over 30,000 km2 in size and has a population of around 2 million. Its capital and largest city is Maseru. Lesotho was previously known as Basutoland, but it declared independence from the United Kingdom on 4 October 1966. The sovereign state is a member of the United Nations, the Commonwealth of Nations, and the Southern African Development Community . The name Lesotho roughly translates to the land of the people who speak Sesotho.

    The Our Lady of Victories Cathedral also known as the Cathedral of Maseru, is a Catholic Church located in the city of Maseru, Lesotho. The church is governed by the Roman or Latin rite and functions as the headquarters of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Maseru which was raised to its current status in 1961 by the Bull Etsi priors of Pope John XXIII. It is under the pastoral responsibility of Archbishop Gerard Tlali Lerotholi and was visited by Pope John Paul II on his tour of several African countries in 1988.
