On this Bike Tour of France, we cycle along country lanes and discover that every trail reveals a fantastic scene from traditional France: timeless villages of golden stone, hilltop castles shining like visions from a medieval tale, and towering oak forests where a knight on a white horse might not look out of place. The full cultural immersion in this corner of France is facilitated by the amazing enchanting towns visited and included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site List, like Saint-Emilion in Bordeaux area and Albi and Carcassonne. Bergerac zone and Sarlat represent also another great surprise if you have never been in the area called Perigord, situated in the Dordogne Departement.
The list of activities range from two wine tastings, a canoe ride on the Dordogne river, a visit to the Museum of Toulouse Lautrec in Albi and the guided visits of Castelnaud Castle, prehistoric site of Cap Blanc in Dordogne and historic center and fortress of Carcassonne.

En montgolfière, au fil de l’eau ou à flanc de falaise, nous vous proposons ce soir un voyage entre Lot et Dordogne, sur des terres foulées dès la préhistoire.
Philippe Lagarde, maire des Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil, se bat pour que la vallée de la Vézère soit labellisée Grand Site de France. Dans cette vallée, berceau de la civilisation européenne, l’abri Cro-Magnon a révélé le squelette du premier homme moderne, en 1868. Aujourd’hui, Philippe Lagarde mobilise les habitants de son village pour mettre en valeur les grottes et les abris sous roche. Il tente aussi de découvrir de nouvelles cavités préhistoriques.
Dans le Lot, au cœur du Haut Quercy, Rocamadour est une pépite du patrimoine français. C’est en montgolfière que nous découvrons son sanctuaire, un haut lieu de pèlerinage depuis le Moyen Age. Accroché à la falaise, Rocamadour nous révèle la beauté de ses chapelles et de sa basilique. Toujours en montgolfière, le vol se poursuivra jusqu’au château de Castelnau-Bretenoux, et aux magnifiques villages de Loubressac et Martel.
L’une des richesses de la Dordogne, c’est la profusion de ses toitures en lauzes. Denis Dodeman, architecte en chef des Monuments Historiques, veille à ce que ces couvertures en pierre soient restaurées dans les règles de l’art. Il nous offre l’occasion d’admirer le travail des artisans, sur le toit de la magnifique chapelle romane de Saint-Geniès, puis au sommet de l’extraordinaire cathédrale Saint-Front à Périgueux.

Wenn man mit dem Wohnmobil nach Frankreich fährt, sollte man auf jeden Fall einen Zwischenstop in Sarlat-la-Canéda einlegen. Sofern es einen (auch) in den Süden Frankreichs verschlägt und Interesse an alten Häusern und Gemäuern besteht. RICHTIG alten Häusern und Gemäuern.
Den Mittelpunkt der historischen Altstadt bildet die Kathedrale. Sie wurde im Stil einer Basilika errichtet und vermutlich bereits im 8. Jahrhundert gegründet. 1317 wurde Sarlat Bischofssitz. Ihren heutigen Namen Sarlat-la-Canéda bekam die Stadt erst 1965 mit der Zusammenlegung der Gemeinden Sarlat und La Canéda.
Seit dem 17. Jahrhundert ist die Stadt mehr und mehr zerfallen. Erst 1964 wurde der gesamte Altstadtbezirk in einer 10 Jahre andauernden Restauration wieder aufgebaut. Heute ist Sarlat-la-Canéda Publikumsmagnet Nummer eins in der Region und zieht jährlich rund eine Million Besucher an.

An Adventure in France, 2008
In 2008 I headed to France with Mark M. and his friend Eric to fix up my parent's house. It is located in the tiny village of Limeuil, and was built in the 17th century. My parents bought it 30 years ago, they spent their summers there, fixing it up, and establishing the beautiful garden. The main house originally housed the guards of the village, it had a tower, but that is gone now. The houses in this village are all built into a wall that surrounds a castle, each house has a connecting door. The guards were able to run through the houses when the village was being attacked, the doorways are only 4 ft. tall, indicating the height of people back then. Inside, there are two enormous fire places on either side of the main room where the guards slept dormitory style. Since my parents were not able to travel in their later years, our dear friends Michael and Belinda have been in charge of booking rentals during the summer months, to the delight of many visitors. Outside is a lovely farm yard, at the end of the day the donkeys are brought in. Part of our garden includes the top of the ancient gate to the village, I stood atop this to film our neighbor Gabby walking up the road with his donkeys. This is a village or artisans, including Chris who is shown dining with us, she is the local jeweler. We call the house La Chouette.

Walking Tour of the Medieval Village of Eze
The hilltop village of Eze in southern France right on the Cote d'Azur, is a must visit if you are visiting the area between Nice and Monte Carlo. Located on the Moyenne Corniche which is the middle road hacked out of the steep hill side that runs from Nice to Monaco. The lower road runs along the shore line while the higher one, skips along the ridges of the hills. The village has been restored and for a long time was an artists colony. It is so picturesque that it quickly became a tourist destination and many of the artists fled. But there are still some excellent galleries to be found along with the tourist fodder, two five star hotels, some excellent cuisine and everything on down the scale. There is a lovely . . . well you can find much more with searches on the internet, but do enjoy this walking tour of the village with its streets designed for human foot traffic and donkeys. Everything comes in and out via hand drawn wheel carts or electric mini-caterpillar carts to span the long, extended steps. This is all up and down walking with some charming little spot around any corner.
