Limpopo is the northernmost province of South Africa. It is named after the Limpopo River, which forms the province's western and northern borders. The name Limpopo has its etymological origin in the Northern Sotho language word diphororo tša meetse, meaning strong gushing waterfalls. The capital is Polokwane . The province was formed from the northern region of Transvaal Province in 1994, and was initially named Northern Transvaal. The following year, it was renamed Northern Province, which remained the name until 2003, when it was formally changed to Limpopo after deliberation by the provincial government and amendment of the South African Constitut...

Sunland Baobab is a well-known enormous baobab in South Africa. The tree is located on Sunland Farm , near Modjadjiskloof , Limpopo Province. In one study the tree was carbon-dated and found to be an estimated 6,060 years old, plus or minus 75 years. Results of other studies have however suggested much higher ages. The tree bloomed profusely in spring and provided a refuge to two pairs of owls, and other bird species. Most of the tree died in 2016 and 2017.

The Vervet Monkey Foundation is a 23-hectare not-for-profit centre for rehabilitation, education and sanctuary for vervet monkeys, near the town of Tzaneen, South Africa. The Sanctuary is a member of the Pan African Sanctuary Alliance , and GFAS, The Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries. The foundation relies heavily on volunteer workers primarily from western countries to assist in the day-to-day running and care duties of the foundation.

The Kingdom of Mapungubwe was a pre-colonial state in Southern Africa located at the confluence of the Shashe and Limpopo rivers, south of Great Zimbabwe. The name is derived from either Venda or Shona. The name may mean Hill of Jackals. The kingdom was the first stage in a development that would culminate in the creation of the Kingdom of Zimbabwe in the 13th century, and with gold trading links to Rhapta and Kilwa Kisiwani on the African east coast. The Kingdom of Mapungubwe lasted about 80 years, and at its height its population was about 5000 people.
