The Star Spangled Banner being played at the village of Carentan, France, commemorating the 65th anniversary of the town's liberation by U.S. forces. The Battle of Carentan was an engagement in World War II between airborne forces of the United States Army and the German Wehrmacht during the Battle of Normandy. The battle took place between June 10 and 14, 1944, on the approaches to and within the city. The role of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment during the battle was popularized by the Stephen Ambrose book and HBO television series Band of Brothers.
