Julian AlpsSlovenia The Julian Alps are a mountain range of the Southern Limestone Alps that stretch from northeastern Italy to Slovenia, where they rise to 2,864 m at Mount Triglav, the highest peak in Slovenia and of the former Yugoslavia. They are named after Julius Caesar, who founded the municipium of Cividale del Friuli at the foot of the mountains. A large part of the Julian Alps is included in Triglav National Park. The second highest peak of the range, the 2,775 m high Jôf di Montasio, lies in Italy. The Julian Alps cover an estimated 4,400 km2 . They are located between the Sava Valley and Canale Valley. You will be padling through a flooded underground mine while admiring incredible underground lakes. First you will board a genuine mining train which will take you deeper into the mine. Then you will receive all the necessary protective equipment such as: neoprene boots, a life jacket and a mining helmet. You will enter a flooded underground shaft and board your special kayak that can hold up to three people. With the help of a professional guide you will explore the underground labyrinth, submerged tunnels and excavation sites. At the end you will take a walk past the abandoned underground working sites to the mining train station. The mine has a constant temperature of 10 °C. Visitors are encouraged to wear appropriate clothing and walking or hiking shoes. After a real miner’s lunch, the train will take you to the mining museum
