We found an amazing #hike from Castelluzzo to San Vito lo Capo during our visit in #Sicily. This hike on the coast leads through an amazing landscape and stunning rock walls where often #climbers can be watched.
We take a coffee in San Vito lo Capo and spend some time on the sandy beach.
The bus back to Castelluzzo was on time and we enjoyed the ride.
The hike takes about 2 to 3 hours of walking time and is fairly easy. Sometimes there is no defined hiking path. Anyway, it is easy to hike along the coast.

Unseren Kletterurlaub in Sizilien (San Vito lo Capo) haben wir dieses Jahr (Anfang März 2019) wieder in der wunderbaren Unterkunft Balio Montoleone verbracht.
Das Apartment liegt idyllisch, am Ortsrand von Castelluzzo, an einem fantastischen Oliven Hain. Direkt von der Terasse führt ein Feldweg zum Meer.
Die Unterkunft lag für unsere Kletterurlaub ideal. Wir hatten kein Auto und konnten von der Bushaltestelle (5 min vom Apartment entfernt) zu unseren Kletter Spots öffentlich fahren. Da wir unbedingt auch in die Klettergebiete bei Custonaci wollten, war uns diese Unterkunft lieber, als eine direkt in San Vito lo Capo.
San Vito lo Capo erreicht man mit dem Bus in weniger als 10 Minuten.
Von Terrasse aus, konnten wir schöne Wanderungen unternehmen.

Sicily is located in the central Mediterranean. It extends from the tip of the Apennine peninsula from which it is separated only by the narrow Strait of Messina, towards the North African coast. Its most prominent landmark is Mount Etna, which is at 3,320 m (10,890 ft) the tallest active volcano in Europe and one of the most active in the world. The island has a typical Mediterranean climate.
The earliest archeological evidence of human dwelling on the island dates from as early as 8000 BC. At around 750 BC, Sicily became a Greek colony and for the next 600 years it was the site of the Greek-Punic and Roman-Punic wars, which ended with the Roman destruction of Carthage. After the fall of the Roman Empire in the 5th century AD, Sicily often changed hands, and during the early Middle Ages it was ruled in turn by the Vandals, Ostrogoths, Byzantines, Arabs and Normans. Later on, the Kingdom of Sicily lasted between 1130 and 1816, subordinated to the crowns of Aragon, Spain, the Holy Roman Empire, and finally the Bourbons, as the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. It was united with the rest of Italy in 1860, but a subsequent economic collapse led to a wave of emigration, separatism, and the emergence of the Mafia, whose criminal activities pose problems to this day. After the birth of the Italian Republic in 1946, Sicily was given special status as an autonomous region.
Sicily has a rich and unique culture, especially with regard to the arts, music, literature, cuisine, architecture and language. Sicily also holds importance for archeological and ancient sites such as the Necropolis of Pantalica, the Valley of the Temples and Selinunte.
The Sicilian economy is diversified. The agriculture sector is significant with citrus fruits, olives and olive oil, grapes and wine. Tourism and real estate are economically important for the island. Still, with the gross domestic product per capita at around €17,000, it stands at only two-thirds of the European Union average and is one of the least developed regions of Italy.

Pozzuoli is a city and comune of the Metropolitan City of Naples, in the Italian region of Campania. It is the main city of the Phlegrean Peninsula. Pozzuoli began as the Greek colony of Dicaearchia (Greek: Δικαιαρχία). The Roman colony was established in 194 BC, and took the name Puteoli which it has his roots from 'puteus', meaning well (also used by sibyls to predict the future) and 'osco fistulus' (cave). An alternative etymology of Puteoli from the Latin puteo (to stink), referring to the sulfuric smell in the area, most notably from Solfatara. This is because Pozzuoli lies in the center of the Campi Flegrei, a volcanic caldera.
Puteoli was the great emporium for the Alexandrian grain ships, and other ships from all over the Roman world. It also was the main hub for goods exported from Campania, including blown glass, mosaics, wrought iron, and marble. The Roman naval base at nearby Misenum housed the largest naval fleet in the ancient world. It was also the site of the Roman Dictator Sulla's country villa and the place where he died in 78 BC. The local volcanic sand, pozzolana (Latin: pulvis puteolanus, dust of Puteoli) formed the basis for the first effective concrete, as it reacted chemically with water. Instead of just evaporating slowly off, the water would turn this sand/lime mix into a mortar strong enough to bind lumps of aggregate into a load-bearing unit. This made possible the cupola of the Pantheon, which is still the world's largest unreinforced concrete dome.
Since 1946 the town has been the home of the Accademia Aeronautica, the Italian Air Force Academy, which was first situated on the island of Nisida, then from 1962 on a purpose-built hilltop campus overlooking the bay. From August 1982 to December 1984 the city experienced hundreds of tremors and bradyseismic activity which reached a peak on October 4, 1983, damaging 8,000 buildings in the city center and dislocating 36,000 people, many permanently. The events raised the sea bottom by almost 2 m, and rendered the Bay of Pozzuoli too shallow for large craft.

The Macellum of Pozzuoli, also known as the Temple of Serapis or serapeum, is considered the city's symbol. The temple was actually a marketplace. Its name derives from the misinterpretation of its function after a statue of the god Serapis was found in 1750 at this location. The Macellum includes three majestic columns in Cipollino marble, which show erosion from marine Lithophaga molluscs when, at an earlier time, the ground level was much lower due to Bradyseism, and sea-water could flow in.
Flavian Amphitheater (Amphitheatrum Flavium), the third largest Italian amphitheater after the Colosseum and the Capuan Amphitheater.

Villa Avellino, one of the few urban parks of Pozzuoli. It also shows several Roman ruins and water tanks. There is also a still working Roman face water fountain.
Rione Terra, the first settlement of Puteoli, originally Dicearkia in Greek. It is a multi-layered city with several Roman buildings; the most important one is the Temple of Augustus (today the Pozzuoli's Duomo)

Climbing in San Vito lo Capo is one of the greatest climbing experiences in my life. The rock is perfect for climbing and the location and ambience stunning.
In this video we climb at the sectors Calamancia, Campo Base and Torre Isolidda.
No car is needed. All spots can be reached via bus public transport. Hikes from the bus stop to the rock are less than 30 minutes and we enjoyed the landscape and the sea.
