Guidoriccio da Fogliano at the siege of Montemassi is a fresco on the western wall of the Sala del Mappamondo in the Palazzo Pubblico in Siena. It shows Guidoriccio da Fogliano, the commander of the Sienese troops, on horseback against the background of a landscape in which the siege of Montemassi takes place.. The Abbey of Sant'Antimo, Italian: Abbazia di Sant'Antimo, is a former Benedictine monastery in the comune of Montalcino, Tuscany, central Italy. It is approximately 10 km from Montalcino about 9 km from the Via Francigena, the pilgrim route to Rome. After many years of disuse, the abbey was reoccupied in 1992 by a small community of Premonstratensian Canons Regular. Since January 2016, the occupants are a community of monks of the Olivetan Benedictine order. A tributary of the river Orcia, the Starcia, runs near the abbey.

Mystical Maremma Hiking in Tuscany, Italy

Ancient Etruscans and Knights Templars in the Maremma, Mount Amiata and Argentario peninsula.

Discover the mystical side of Southern Tuscany. This lesser-known part of the region encompassing the Maremma, stretches between Mt. Amiata, an extinct volcano, and the Thyrrenean sea. Far from the crowds, this pristine territory is still imbued with a magical atmosphere deriving from ancient rituals and beliefs.

We start in Arcidosso, where stone carved alchemical symbols bear witness to the Knights Templars. Climbing Mt Labro, up to the Giurisdavidica tower we have breath-taking views on the Tuscan Archipelago and learn about the charismatic man and self-proclaimed messiah who founded his own cult. We continue on the footsteps of the Etruscan Civilization walking through 2500-year-old mysterious “Vie Cave”, roads carved deep into the rock adorned with astrological signs. We admire the unrivalled burial architecture of the Necropolis of Sovana, where cave-like tombs lay under monumental temples carved out of volcanic tufa rock.
