How do you get around in Barcelona? Well, other than using your legs, the name of the game in Barcelona is the Metro. We like the buses too but more on that later.
We definitely recommend the Metro. It’s cheap, it’s safe; you’ll get to see loads of the city and if you’re familiar with using the London Underground, the Metro will feel pretty similar. So here goes…
A single ticket costs €2.15 and this is good for one, single journey. But, if you plan on travelling a lot over the course of your holiday, consider buying a T-10 ticket. It’s really useful because it allows you ten journeys and each journey can take up to an hour and fifteen minutes and I think it allows you on the bus as well as the Metro. And you can use it between two people so I can go through the barriers and then pass it back to Siân-Amy and she can go through too.
What’s also great about the T-10 ticket it that you don’t have to use all of your ten journeys in one day, because that would be pretty tough to do. In fact, no matter when you buy your ticket, it will still be valid until the end of January the following year.
If for some reason you don’t like the idea of those, you can buy tickets that are for two-day travel, three-day travel, that sort of thing. But we have spoken with locals out there, we’ve done it for ourselves and, sorry, but the T-10 just wins hands down. And we realise that’s a lot of information to take in, but what it comes down to is…
The T-10 will be great for you if you’re going to be in Barcelona for a few days and if you plan on going around the city and seeing a tonne of sights. T-10 is the way forward. T-10 FTW. T-10!
That’s the Metro in Barcelona. It’s open until midnight Sunday to Thursday and then 2am on Fridays and Saturdays.
Next up, seeing the city from buses. Sightseeing tours work on a hop-on, hop-off basis. There are two main bus tour companies in Barcelona. You’ve got Barcelona Bus Touristic and Barcelona City Tour. Barcelona Bus Touristic claim to be the official Barcelona bus tour company and they have three major routes: red, green and blue.
The red route includes some of the Gaudì attractions, Port Olympic - where as the blue route takes you to some of the most popular tourist attractions like Sagrada Família; you’ll go up to Park Güell and FC Camp Nou. The green route is a seasonal route. It runs from April to November and includes the coastal views.
You can buy your tickets on the bus, although I think you’re less likely to get them if it’s going to be really busy. You can buy them in the tourist office or you can even buy them online before you go, if you want to be super organised, and then when you get on the bus they’ll swap them for real tickets.
You can do a walking tour of the city if you want to use your feet. Some of them you do have to pay for and some of them are free. They include tours of the Gaudí attractions; a tour of the old city; a tour of Barcelona at night time. Yeah, it’s really cool. Obviously, if you don’t want to pay though, you can just wander around yourself and find your own way around.
We’re going to recommend using your feet to keep it cheap or going on the Metro. Obviously both these things are affordable and easy and just great ways to see the city. Yep and now you know how to get around the city, have a look at our video on the top things to do while you’re here.

Barcelona lies on the Mediterranean Sea, on the Costa del Maresme, in the north of the Costa Brava and in the south of the Costa del Garraf, and an important port. The city, which for a long time by the port, roads and railways of the Mediterranean was closed regained a sea front and private beaches. Along the coast one can find sandy beaches that have been constructed in the run up to the Olympics. Sant Martí is the area that lies on the sea and the beach, and runs from the center to the north.
The population of Barcelona has the reputation to be sportive. The mild climate, is not too harsh winters and the fact that Barcelona by the sea, makes the boulevards along the beaches and parks are often crowded with joggers, skaters and cyclists. Every year, held a Formula 1 race in April / May at the circuit of Montmeló, a village within the metropolis Barcelona.
One of the most unique attractions in Barcelona is the beach. Although constructed entirely artificial, but literally next to the center, on the Mediterranean Sea. At the beginning of the 90s, during the big city transformation for the Olympics, the entire coast of Barcelona was redesigned and constructed almost again. Since then, there is a beach of more than four kilometers long, which is equipped with showers, lifeguards, bars and restaurants. According to figures from the municipality are, volleyball and swimming are more than 7 million people annually.
The beach is divided into seven beach areas, from south to north: Sant Sebastià, La Barceloneta, Nova Icaria, Bogatell, Mar Bella, Nova Mar Bella and recently became available Levante. This urban beach has two nudist beaches. Both Sant Sebastia (tolerated) as at Nova Mar Bella (official) can, as well as on the promenade, plenty without clothes and healthy swim.
There are a few clubs at the beach. Chic bars and trendy nightclubs are mainly found at the top of the Diagonal Avenue. Barceloneta is a seaside neighborhood of Barcelona, built in 1753 and designed by engineer Juan Martin Cermeño, under the orders of Captain General of Barcelona, the Marquis de la Mina.
It borders on the beaches and the sea, with the Moll d'Espanya of the Port Vell, with the Bank (Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera), and the Olympic Port. In Barceloneta are two of the most popular beaches in the city, the beach of Barceloneta and San Sebastian beach. In 1715, a royal decree 321 solar adjudged the beach to the inhabitants of the houses that had been demolished to build the fort of the Citadel, built after Barcelona had been conquered by Philip V in 1714.
There is the Barcelona Aquarium. It also houses the most famous surf spot of Barcelona on its sandy beach. Barceloneta is famous for its sandy beach (the beach is also mentioned in Book 2 of Don Quixote) and the many restaurants and nightclubs along the boulevard. In recent years the quality of the sand on the beach is a source of continuing controversy. In February 2008 is the WHO started an investigation to find out whether the sand meets WHO safety standards.
The district has a triangular shape and limits of the neighborhood beaches and the sea, with Spain's Dock Port Vell and the Ribera district. The 1992 Summer Olympics brought many changes for Barceloneta. The houses and streets have been renovated. The chiringuitos were demolished to make room for the new beach promenade.
One of the attractions that Barcelona has built in recent years are its beaches. Thanks to the regeneration of the coast held in 1992, during the Olympic Games, Barcelona now has nine beaches and a bathing area they occupy more than 4.2 linear kilometers of coastline. The beaches are full downtown, are connected to the center and are located just minutes from anywhere in the city.
The beaches are subjected to cleaning every day throughout the year. Citizens and visitors can enjoy the beaches as they are equipped to play tennis, beach volleyball and other sports. The ten beaches are, from south to north, the beach of San Sebastian, San Miguel, Barceloneta, Somorrostro, New Icaria, Bogatell, Mar Bella, Nova Mar Bella, Levante and bathrooms Forum. On the beach of Mar Bella there is a space reserved for gays.
