Whananaki is a locality on the east coast of Northland, New Zealand. Whangarei is to the southwest. Te Wairahi Stream flows from the northwest into Whananaki Inlet, a wide tidal estuary which separates Whananaki from Whananaki South. Sandy Bay lies to the southeast. A long wooden footbridge connects Whananaki North and Whananaki South, with an alternative connection being a 6-kilometre-long road that crosses the river above the estuary. Hikurangi is about 22 km southwest of Whananaki South.The area was reputedly named by Puhi, the captain of the legendary waka Mātaatua. Waipoua Forest preserves some of the best examples of kauri forest remaining in New Zealand. It is notable for having two of the largest living kauri trees, Tane Mahuta and Te Matua Ngahere. The forest was declared a sanctuary in 1952. A community based volunteer organisation, the Waipoua Forest Trust, helps maintain the forest.

The Wairere Boulders are a rock formation at Wairere, in the Hokianga region of northern New Zealand. A geological nature park around the boulders was planned and constructed by Felix and Rita Schaad in 1999. The walkways were built between 2000 and 2003. Wairere Boulders welcomes customers to see the large basalt boulders that are scattered all over the property of the Schaads, a Swiss couple who emigrated to New Zealand in 1983.

Tapapakanga regional park

Tapapakanga is a coastal farm park which was opened in March 1995

Here is alot of European and Maori history, The Ashby Homestead is located in the park
which was built by James Ashby in 1900 for him, his wife and 10 kids. Later on after 2 more children were born, a school was established in their front room followed by a post office in 1913.

The park offers a number of things to do with quite a few tracks to walk and offer great views over the Firth of Thames, all tracks are clearly colour-marked on poles.

This park forms part of a working farm so you walk among the farm animals at times. Also be sure to pack in sunscreen as long sections of the walk is totally exposed, the sun has no mercy and was quite hot as you can see, my watch indicated 36 degrees (which includes my body heat).

Walking tracks vary from easy to moderate grades with steap uphill and down hill sections, we also need to climb over a section where a slip took out part of the track.

Trampoline Taumarunui Apr15

A bounce on the trampoline at the Taumarunui Holiday Park, using a sports camera on my forehead. The camera slipped as soon as I got on, so I had to adjust it, hence my fingers, then it stayed in its place for the rest of the bounce. This was a springfree trampoline designed by Keith Alexander, an old schoolmate of mine.
