Paengaroa is a village in the Bay of Plenty, New Zealand which lies 11 km from Te Puke, 35 km from Tauranga and 46.2 km from Rotorua. It is situated on State Highway 33 approximately 2 km from the junction with State Highway 2. Paengaroa has 2.27 hectares of commercial land. Paengaroa is the eastern terminus of the Tauranga Eastern Motorway which was opened in 2015. In the 2013 census Paengaroa had a population of 906 up from 897 in 2006 and 831 in 2001. Mount Maunganui, or Mauao, commonly known by locals as The Mount, is an extinct volcanic cone at the end of a peninsula and the town of Mount Maunganui, by the eastern entrance to the Tauranga Harbour in New Zealand. It is considered very important and tapu by the local Māori iwi, featuring extensively in local mythology. It is also of significant historical value. The summit is 232 metres above sea level. In recent years there have been several fires on the mountain, in turn triggering a number of replanting efforts. Since Mount Maunganui has been open to the general public it has become a popular location for many activities including scenic walks, jogging and even hang gliding.

It was an independent town from Tauranga until the completion of the Tauranga Harbour Bridge in 1988, which connects Mount Maunganui to Tauranga's central business district. Mount Maunganui is also the name of the large lava dome which was formed by the upwelling of rhyolite lava about two to three million years ago. It is officially known by its Māori name Mauao, but is colloquially known in New Zealand simply as The Mount.

Karekere is a hilly spot on the west coast of the Auckland region which was made famous for the beach scenes from the Movie the piano.

There are many walks for visitors to take from the town through the forest and beach.

A family friendly 5 or 10 minute gentle sloping walk takes visitors to the peaceful Karekare falls, where the water tumbles 25 metres into a pretty lagoon of opal water.

How electronic toll collection works:
There are no toll booths to stop and pay at – you simply drive along the toll road. As you pass under the toll point cameras capture an image of your vehicle’s registration plate number. The system determines the type of vehicle you’re driving from your registration plate and assigns the correct toll. You can pay by toll account or online without extra charges. Purchases at a self service kiosk or by phone will have a payment charge added to your purchase.

1. Tauranga Eastern Link Toll Road (State Highway 2) – Tauranga
Located between the Paengaroa roundabout and the Domain Road interchange the 15.5 kilometre toll road offers an alternative to the Te Puke Highway, through Te Puke. Time save: Around 12 minutes

2. Takitimu Drive Toll Road (State Highway 29) – Tauranga
A 5 kilometre toll Road. Time save: Around 7 minutes at non-peak times. The alternative routes are via Cameron Road or Moffat Road / Cambridge Road.

3. Northern Gateway Toll Road
New Zealand’s first fully electronic toll road where motorists don’t stop to pay the toll on the road.
