Jiufen village is just a train ride away from Taipei Taiwan - but is it worth the travel? To get there we needed to catch the train to Ruifang station first, then grab a taxi to Jiufen old street. Pretty cheap and easy to do in the end.
The old street and streets are cool, it's interesting to see a different side to Taipei and Taiwan, but definitely watch the video to get our opinion on if you should bother with the travel from Taipei to Juifen in 2018.

Here are 15 things to do if it's your first time in Taiwan. I know we could have done a lot more things like ride the Maokong Gondola among other more exciting activities but we had my father with us who is 70 years old so we were kinda limited to doing easier and more convenient things. This trip was my birthday gift to him.

Nowadays, #Jiufen is a popular tourist attraction and quite legendary for its stunning scenery from the A-mei tea house.
The A-mei tea house is perhaps the best known attraction in Jiufen, rumor goes it was featured in Ghibili's Spirited Away (Anime movie) by Hayao Miyazaki.

Since Jiufen is an hour drive east of the capital Taipei, you may want to make Jiufen a day trip with a possible stop at Keelung city.
In Jiufen I recommend you start with the Jiufen Old Street which is a market street with many food vendors selling delicious treats like stinky tofu, almond drinks, fish balls and peanut ice cream wraps.

Make sure you visit Jiufen in good physical condition since the stairways can be very steep so do not forget a good pair of running shoes. It could also rain a lot so an umbrella is highly recommended.

How to get to shifen from taipei main station I step by step direction to shifen
Shifen- Travelling to Shifen will take about 1.5 hours from Taipei main station. NT$60 reserve seating To get to Ruifang by TRA to Ruifang Station .Just Follow the signs in the underground stations to get to Taipei Railway Station (TRA) ... From Ruifang Station Transfer train to the Pingxi Line (平溪線) (this requires another ticket). Ride train to Shifen train station 45mins travel time from pingxi train to shifen station.

Taitung County is the third largest county in Taiwan, located on the island's eastern coast. There is a wonderful tribal community, delicious tribal food, a music village, gorgeous tourist destinations to explore and even bicycling in Chishang!

Here's a breakdown of amazing things to do in Taitung, Taiwan:
1. Take the tourist bus to explore scenic spots
2. Walk the Sansiantai footbridge
3. Take the train to Chishang
4. Bicycle around Chishang (you can rent a bicycle for 6 hours for 100 Taiwanese dollars which is about $3.50 USD)
5. Explore Mr. Brown's Road also called Mr. Brown's Avenue
6. Eat local, when in doubt choose the tastiest picture!
7. Eat rice ice cream
8. Visit the music village
9. Stay at the Taiwan Indigenous Cultural Resort
10. Eat delicious tribal food
