American Battle Monument Cemetery in Lorraine, France
This video presents a brief narrated tour of Lorraine American Cemetery's landscaped grounds, architecture, and works of art.
The Lorraine American Cemetery and Memorial in France covers 113.5 acres and contains the largest number of graves of our military dead of World War II in Europe, a total of 10,489. Their headstones are arranged in nine plots in a generally elliptical design extending over the beautiful rolling terrain of eastern Lorraine and culminating in a prominent overlook feature. Most of the dead here were killed while driving the German forces from the fortress city of Metz toward the Siegfried Line and the Rhine River. Initially, there were over 16,000 Americans interred in the St. Avold region, mostly from the U.S. Seventh Army's Infantry and Armored Divisions and its Cavalry Groups. St. Avold served as a vital communications center for the vast network of enemy defenses guarding the western border of the Third Reich.
The memorial, which stands on a plateau to the west of the burial area, contains ceramic operations maps with narratives and service flags. High on its exterior front wall is the large figure of St. Nabor, the martyred Roman soldier overlooking the silent host. On each side of the memorial, and parallel to its front, stretch the Tablets of the Missing on which are inscribed 444 names. Rosettes mark the names of those since recovered and identified. The entire area is framed in woodland.
The cemetery is open daily to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. except December 25 and January 1. It is open on host country holidays. When the cemetery is open to the public, a staff member is on duty in the Visitor Building to answer questions and escort relatives to grave and memorial sites.

The Lorraine American Cemetery and Memorial, is located just outside of Saint-Avold, Moselle, France. It covers 113.5 acres (0.459 km2) and contains 10,849 graves, the largest number of any American World War II cemetery in Europe.[1] Those interred died mostly in the autumn of 1944 during the drive to the Siegfried Line as the Americans sought to expel the Germans; they were mainly part of the U.S. Third and Seventh Armies. The cemetery is administered by the American Battle Monuments Commission.

Andrew Miller (died 1944), Medal of Honor recipient
George Preddy (1919--1944), flying ace, buried next to his brother William Preddy

Just over 100 years ago, the First World War was raging in North Eastern France along the line known as the Western Front. Lorraine, Meuse and Verdun found themselves located on the front line. This video, highlighting the role of America in the conflict and the memorials dedicated to US Soldiers in France, is an introduction to the WWI series « Travels with Darley » by Darley Newman for PBS channel. It presents the Meuse Argonne American Cemetery, the largest WW1 American Cemetery in Europe.

Route du Soleil Tol (Péage) bij Salon-de-Provence, Frankrijk (France)
Deze video toont het tolstation bij Salon-de-Provence op de Route du Soleil (A7) in Frankrijk rijdende in zuidelijke richting. De maker uit zijn frustratie over het feit dat er zoveel mensen zijn die andere mensen onnodig ophouden bij de tolpoortjes terwijl dit dus helemaal niet nodig is.
Als mensen met creditcard betalen en ervoor zorgen dat ze zowel ticket als creditcard bij de hand hebben bij het tolpoortje dan duurt het afrekenen niet meer dan 10 seconden per voertuig.
Echter, ervaring leert dat minstens 1/3 van de automobilisten pas aan het tolpoortje beginnen na te denken over wat er nu eigenlijk moet gebeuren. Hierdoor het ticket en/of de creditcard niet bij de hand hebben, moeten zoeken, in paniek raken omdat men zich ineens realieert dat men iedereen ophoudt en daardoor onnodig nog meer tijd verspillen.
Dit zorgt voor irritant oponthoud dat ook op de vakantie vervelend is. Als je bij topdrukte in een rij van 30 auto's staat en 1/3 van de mensen heeft door onvoorbereidheid 1 minuut extra tijd nodig om te betalen, dan kost je dat 10 minuten nutteloos oponthoud. Erg irritant !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Battle of Carentan was an engagement in World War II between airborne forces of the United States Army and the German Wehrmacht during the Battle of Normandy. It’s actually really simple and in our short video, taken on an Erna Low ski holiday road-trip to the French Alps, we show you exactly what happens and how you are able to pay a road toll on holiday in France.
In our video, we show you a road toll in Paris, on a rainy but cheerful start to a ski holiday.
Approaching the road toll, you’ll see where to pick up a ticket. There is then a machine, clearly labelled showing where to put your ticket in. Once you have inserted your ticket into the correct slot, your card then also needs to be inserted. This is where the money for the toll will be taken from your card, and then your card will quickly be returned to you. Following your card will be your ticket, and voila! You can then drive away to begin your ski holiday.
