Santry is a suburb on the northside of Dublin, Ireland, bordering Coolock, Glasnevin, Kilmore and Ballymun. It straddles the boundary of Dublin City Council and Fingal County Council jurisdictions. The character of the area has changed in the last 100 years, from a district centred on a large estate, and later small village, to a modern, rather dispersed, mixed-use suburb. Much of the old village is gone and where there were once fields full of crops, and wild woodlands of all sorts, there are now housing estates, an athletics stadium, a shopping complex, industrial parks and busy roads leading to Dublin Airport. 1. Howth Head Howth
Howth is a village and outer suburb of Dublin, Ireland. The district occupies the greater part of the peninsula of Howth Head, forming the northern boundary of Dublin Bay. Originally just a small fishing village, Howth with its surrounding once-rural district is now a busy suburb of Dublin, with a mix of suburban residential development, wild hillside and heathland, golf courses, cliff and coastal paths, a small quarry and a busy commercial fishing port. The only neighbouring district on land is Sutton. Howth is also home to one of the oldest occupied buildings in Ireland, Howth Castle. It has been the location for many films. Howth is also a civil parish in the ancient barony of Coolock.

Best Dublin Pub Snugs with Gerry Cooley

Gerry Cooley Dublin Historian and Tour Guide visits 5 of the best Pub Snugs in Dublin. He does so in the company of fellow Dubliner Anne Cassin of R.T.E.'s program Capital D.
Anne chooses Ryans of Parkgate street as her favourite while Gerry opts for Toners in Baggot street. In reality all 5 are winners and Gerry salutes all Pub Snug owners applauding them for keeping the old Dublin Pub Snug alive. There are less than twenty Snugs left in all of the City and County of Dublin. Gerry now visits these Snugs as part of his Dublin Tours so if you are ever in Dublin why not join him. In Toners he recites some poetry in honour of W.B. Yeats who once made a brief visit to Toners Snug in the company of Oliver St Gogarty back in the 1920's.

Portals to Dublin's Past with Gerry Cooley

This is was an unsuccessful pitch to RTE'S Capital D program in January 2011. It was a follow up to the previous years piece that Gerry did on Pub Snugs in Dublin. Gerry believed it had potential, and so it's worth a view, three very interesting stories that he includes on his Walking Tours of Dublin. Great to see Publicans like Ronan and John Lynch, proud of their premises, the Swan Bar in Aungier Street/York Street and it's place in Dublin's history. Pub is worth a visit if you are in Dublin, great toasted sambos and plenty of Rugby chat with Ronan. His dad, John Lynch is an former Irish International player. The Bar area has been used recently in a Hidden Listening advert. Just received a lovely exterior paint job, well done lads... maybe a full documentary on the Swan Bar is a next step.
