Sierre is the capital of the district of Sierre in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. It has a population of 16,332. Sierre is nicknamed City of the Sun for its average of 300 days of sunshine a year. It is the last official French speaking city in Valais before the French–German language border of the canton located at the forêt de Finges, few kilometres after the town. A German-speaking minority lives in Sierre, as it counts around 8% of the population.

1. Lac de Geronde Sierre
Lac de Géronde is a lake at Sierre, Valais, Switzerland. At an elevation of 523 metres , it has a surface area of 0.055 square kilometres. A trail, made out of woodchips, leads around the lake. A public bathing beach, the „Bains de Géronde“, is located at the northwest border of the lake. Besides the main lake, there are two petit lacs close by. From Sierre trainstation, the Lac de Géronde can be reached by foot in 10 minutes.

The Gelmer Funicular is a funicular railway in the canton of Bern, Switzerland. It links a lower terminus at Handegg, in the Haslital with an upper terminus at the Gelmersee lake.

The Gelmerbahn was the steepest funicular in Switzerland and Europe, until the opening of the new Stoos Funicular in 2017.

A monstrous climb of maximum 106 percent gradient indisputably makes this funicular railway the steepest in Europe. Both the ascent and descent in the open carriages are an adventure by themselves.

The Gelmerbahn funicular takes tourists a vertigo-inducing 6,000 feet above sea level to Lake Gelmer and while the journey might be slow it's not for the faint-hearted.
