Most beautiful parts of Alsace...Through the vine routes to Vosges massif with Mont Sainte-Odile, Gazon du Faing, Le Hochneck , then beautiful medieval villages: Ribeauville, Riquewihr, Gertwiller, Eguisheim, Hunawihr, then a little bit of Colmar and Strasbourg and a little bit of attraction for children: monkey zoo (Montagnes des signes), lama's farm (which is not in Alsace area, but I just couldn't remove them from this video :) ), papillon's garden (Jardins des Papillons), and eagle park in Kintzheim castle (Volerie des Aigles).

Josef at Audie Murphy Memorial Near Holtzwihr, France

In April, 2017, Viking Cruise guide, Josef, from Czechoslovakia, gave a moving tribute to Audie Murphy and a company of American soldiers, who made a valiant stand outside the village of Holtzwihr, France, in the winter of 1945. This took place during the Colmar Pocket Campaign, when both French and American forces fought in a coordinated effort to push German Nazis out of the in the Alsace Lorraine region in France. Tens of thousands of soldiers lost their lives on all sides during this campaign. Audie Murphy was only nineteen years old when he made his own heroic stand. He became the most decorated US soldier during World War II. Josef's commentary was punctuated by pouring rain.

Ypres 2018 Part 2 - Ypres CWGC Reservoir & Tyne Cot Cemeteries and Menin Gate

In part two of our Ypres adventure we visit the Commonwealth War Graves Commission Reservoir Cemetery in Ypres and then take a short journey out to Tyne Cot Cemetery. A rather sobering day for us all which really drive home just how many brave soldiers fought for our freedom between 1914 and 1917 in the Ypres Salient. It is fantastic that these places still exist and are so well looked after for all of us to pay our respects.

We round the day off by visiting the Menin Gate Last Post Ceremony which bears the names of 54,000 soldiers who died in The Great War who have no known grave.
