Buenos Aires (the official name 'is Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires/Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, also called Capital Federal/Federal Capital) is the capital of the Argentine Republic. Its center is the Plaza de Mayo, lined with stately 19th-century buildings including Casa Rosada, the iconic, balconied presidential palace. Other major attractions include Teatro Colón, a grand 1908 opera house with nearly 2,500 seats, and the modern MALBA museum, displaying Latin American art. nhabitants of Buenos Aires are called porteños, people from the port, implying that many of the inhabitants are immigrants in some ways or another. Buenos Aires is a singular, open, and integrating destination that allows the visitor not only to view the city but also to have an exceptional urban adventure.
Buenos Aires, like most of the Argentinian pampas, has a humid subtropical climate with a significant influence from the Atlantic Ocean. However, the city has unpredictable weather year-round. Summers last from December to February and are hot as the average high is exactly 30°C (86°F) and heat waves can affect the city leading to above 35°C (95°F) and, rarely, above 38°C (100°F).

Argentina has a renowned football reputation and the sport is very popular throughout the whole country. Buenos Aires and the surrounding suburbs are home to more than 15 Primera league teams, the two most internationally known being Boca Juniors (which resides in La Boca) and River Plate (which formerly resided in La Boca, but now resides in Belgrano). A game between these two legendary teams is called the Superclásico. Other popular teams that draw big crowds are San Lorenzo, Independiente and Racing Club, just to name a few. When any of these big five clubs (Boca Juniors, River Plate, San Lorenzo, Independiente and Racing Club) teams play against one another, it is a clasico or derby match.
A trip to Buenos Aires is not complete without some sort of experience of the Tango, the national dance of Argentina. A good place to go and watch some authentic Tango is at the Confiteria Idéal Suipacha 384 (just off of Corrientes, near Calle Florida. However, Tango is best experienced not in La Boca and on Calle Florida, but in the Milongas. A milonga is both a place where a Tango dance will take place, as well as a specific type of tango dance.

My 1st visit to Buenos Aires, Argentina Jan-Feb 2012. These are my notes & places I've seen so it can be useful for others visiting Buenos Aires: 10hrs 45mins direct flight from IAD with United - no visa required but $140 entry fee at the airport (good for 10 yrs) that can be paid with credit card - ATM machines at airport to withdraw ARS (1000ARS=234.83US$ Banelco charged 17.4 ARS fee) - Hubby wants to be safe so we took prepaid taxi to downtown for 180ARS (or 43US$ cash with return at 150ARS if we call them) took 35 mins but public bus #8 can be taken for 2.5ARS/ea and takes 2hrs or radio taxi (run by meter and not as safe?) - Xchange a roll of 25 one pesos coins - Take Bus # 64 for 1.20-1.25ARS each trip to visit the following neighborhoods: Belgrano (Chinatown or Barrio Chino-not that great), Once (P. Meserere), Centro (Calle Florida, Suipacha, pedestrian streets, Obelisk, main monuments/buildings like Casa Rosada, National Congress, Parliament, Theater Colon, City Cathedral), Palermo (hip rich area with the most greens & lakes, P. Italia, Zoo, Botanical & Japanese Garden), Boca (artists & musicians area for street tango shows). All the Argentinians I've met have been very sweet, giving me change, all kinds of info with a smile, even tips on being careful like wearing my backpack in the front (instead of in the back), use small bills (crooks can switch the 100ARS bill quickly then claim that it's fake...) to guard me against crooks that I've not met (at least not yet!). Don't wear any jewellery, don't flash your money around and have a good time. It's really safe walking around! Buenos Aires has the same feel as Europe, except it's a lot cheaper and 'Tango' abounds! Campanópolis - Argentina (Provincia de Buenos Aires)
Campanópolis es una aldea única y atrapante, formada por medio centenar de construcciones de estilos diversos, unidas por callejuelas, pasajes, recovecos y lugares secretos que remiten a los pueblos del medioevo europeo pero con un ecléctico estilo propio y un entorno coronado por la naturaleza. Hoy cuenta con miles de árboles y plantas de distintas especies. Se encuentra ubicada en la localidad de González Catán, Partido de La Matanza, Provincia de Buenos Aires.
Historia
En 1977 Don Antonio Campana compra las tierras que hoy conforman el predio de Campanópolis. En 1985 el CEAMSE expropia temporalmente estas tierras para llenar las cavas de tosca con basura del conurbano bonaerense. Pasan otros 5 años, y en los 90, se recupera el predio, encontrándose el mismo en un estado calamitoso.
Para esa época se le detectan a Don Antonio problemas de salud. En ese momento, este ex comerciante de alimentos decide realizar el saneamiento, limpieza y relleno del terreno, para la posterior construcción de esta aldea con materiales totalmente reciclados, recolectados de diversas demoliciones y lugares exóticos de Buenos Aires y otras partes del mundo. Antonio, hijo de inmigrantes, con estudios primarios, sin planos pero con mucho amor y dedicación, diseño y construyó lo que su amigo, el Profesor Alfonso Corso, bautizó Campanópolis: la Ciudad de Campana.
Campanópolis tiene una historia increíble que uno podrá ir descubriendo poco a poco, junto a un recorrido relatado basado en los propios testimonios del fundador.
Como en todo proyecto realizado a partir de la fantasía, los sueños y el esfuerzo, tiene un vínculo indescifrable con el arte y la emoción de los logros conseguidos.
Levantada en un predio de más de 200 hectáreas que posee llanuras, bosques selváticos, ríos, arroyos, lagos y una rica historia, Campanópolis ha sido el lugar para crear una obra de arte de estilo arquitectónico ecléctico donde conviven las casas, las callejuelas empedradas, los pasajes que guían a través de diferentes recovecos y escenarios que recrean la mejores aldeas medievales europeas.
La obra que se ve en Campanópolis es obra del genio artístico, soñador y elevado de un hijo de inmigrantes, que como tantos otros que hicieron a la Argentina moderna, es el rescate del espíritu creativo, dinámico y transgresor.
Antonio Campana, el cristalizador del sueño, al verse condenado a morir víctima de una enfermedad terminal, decide dar un vuelco total a su existencia y consagrarse a un sueño.
Se desprende de sus empresas y construye esto para él y su gente, familia y amigos, sin sentido comercial, apostando a la ilusión y al placer de crear algo sobre terrenos recuperados a un basural y empleando materiales de demoliciones, con amplio espíritu ecológico y regenerativo.
Edifica una aldea, con mezclas de estilos, de reminiscencias medievales, en medio de bosques sembrados por él mismo, lugares de magia.
Rompe los moldes de la construcción, porque hace lo contrario de todo arquitecto. En base a lo viejo construye lo nuevo.

The hotel has 30 rooms in total, many of them are suites, and we have several room categories. One of our main features is tango lessons. The main guest we get usually comes here for tango, but we also have people looking for quality and luxury hotel that you would in most countries in Europe. The hotel has been decorated with paintings from the turn of the 20th century. Like you can see here in this room, we have paintings and murals in all rooms, depicting typical scenes of that age. Also tango scenes where you can see how tango was danced in the beginning. This was pretty much a forgiven dance, which was not available to everyone. The hotel provides group tango lessons every day from, usually start around 6 or 7 p.m. so you can go out and enjoy the day. And we also feature private tango lessons.
We chose it because of the atmosphere, and because of the fact that it is the history of tango, which is this neighborhood. So we thought it would be a good combination, of being in Buenos Aires and having this hotel, to combine the two. This is one of the murals we have here in the house. They were all done by a painter called Abel Magnani. He also did the bas-relief you see behind me. We are now in the balcony of one of our Royal rooms. You can have breakfast here, which is served every morning from 7 in the morning to 3 in the afternoon. I am Leandro, showing you Buenos Aires.
