Theni District is a district of Tamil Nadu state in South India.Theni district is Located in Madurai Region , The town of Theni is the district headquarters. The district is divided into two natural divisions: The hilly areas are constituted by parts of the three taluk's Periyakulam, Uthamapalayam and Andipatti with thick vegetation and perennial streams from the hills on the western side and Cumbum valley which lies in Uthamapalayam taluk. As of 2011, Theni district had a population of 1,245,899 with a sex-ratio of 980 females for every 1,000 males.

    Meghamalai, popularly called Highwavys Mountains, is a mountain range situated in the Western Ghats in Theni district, Tamil Nadu. It is dotted with cardamom plantations and tea estates. The place is situated at an elevation of 1,500 m above sea level and it is rich in flora and fauna. This area, now mostly planted with tea, includes Cloudlands, Highwavys, Venniar and Manalar estates, the access to which is now largely restricted. It still includes large untouched remnants of evergreen forest.

    Suruli falls, is located 56 km from Theni and 10 km from Cumbum in the Theni District in Tamil Nadu, India. It is a 2 stage Cascading water fall. The Suruli River supplying the falls originates from the Meghamalai mountain range. The falls drop from a height of 150 feet gathers into a pool, flows for a short distance and again plummets an additional 40 feet .

    Kumbakkarai Falls are lesser known falls in the foothills of the Kodaikanal Hills. They are located at 10°10′48″N 77°31′50″E in Theni district, 9 kilometers from Periyakulam. Kumbakkarai Falls are located along the Kodai-Vellagavi-Periyakulam footpath. These falls have two stages. At the first stage, water collects in huge rock recesses which are each named after wild animals such as tiger, elephant, snake etc. The Pambar river then flows .5 km to the second stage before falling as the main waterfall. The water originates in Kodaikanal Hills and flows along the rocks and finally reaches the foot hills. This place is called Kumbakarai. The travellers come here and take bath in the falls.     The Solaiyar Dam is part of the Solaiyar Hydroelectric Project . The project comprises the main Soliayar Dam, the Solaiyar Flanking, and the Solaiyar Saddle Dam. Upper Solaiyar or Upper Sholayar Dam is located 20 km from Valparai, a hill station in the Anaimalai Hills of the Coimbatore district, Tamil Nadu India.
