Beautiful Zakynthos Island, whom Homer mentions as Yliessa ie wooded, named after its first inhabitant of the island of Beautiful Zakynthos Island son of the King of Phrygia Dardanus. Then conquered the Arkeisios descendant of the King of Kefalonia Mullet, father of Laertes, and grandfather of Odysseus. So Beautiful Zakynthos Island received the Kingdom of Ulysses who participated with twelve ships to the Trojan war. Upon his return, however, and the murder of the suitors of whom twenty were from Zante, Beautiful Zakynthos Island is revolted and won their island of the Kingdom of Ulysses.
In the years following the zeitgeist established in Beautiful Zakynthos Island new constitution, the Republic. In 1807 the French Emperor returned this time and in 1815 created the United State of the Ionian Islands came under the protection of the British (in fact colonialism) until 1864. The dream of Beautiful Zakynthos Island to unite with Greece took place after hard fights on May 21, 1864, after a total of 680 years of foreign occupation.
