The County of Waldeck was a state of the Holy Roman Empire and its successors from the late 12th century until 1929. In 1349 the county gained Imperial immediacy and in 1712 was raised to the rank of Principality. After the dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire in 1806 it was a constituent state of its successors: the Confederation of the Rhine, the German Confederation, the North German Confederation, the German Empire and, until 1929, the Weimar Republic. It comprised territories in present-day Hesse and Lower Saxony, .

1. Schloss Waldeck - Castle and Museum Waldeck
Schloss Pyrmont, sometimes called Pyrmont Castle, was a schloss and the summer residence of the counts of Spiegelberg and counts of Waldeck-Pyrmont in the present-day German town of Bad Pyrmont. The current building dates to the 18th century and houses a museum. The schloss is part of Pyrmont Fortress which dates to the 16th century.

2. Limburg Cathedral Limburg
The Catholic Cathedral of Limburg , also known as Georgsdom in German after its dedication to Saint George, is located above the old town of Limburg in Hesse, Germany. It is the cathedral of the Catholic Diocese of Limburg. Its high location on a rock above the river Lahn provides its visibility from far away. It is the result of an Early Gothic modernization of an originally Early Romanesque building and therefore shows a Romanesque-Gothic transitional style. The medieval patron saints of the church were Saint George and Nicholas of Myra.

3. Hermannsdenkmal Detmold
The Hermannsdenkmal is a monument located southwest of Detmold in the district of Lippe, in Germany. It stands on the densely forested Grotenburg, sometimes also called the Teutberg or Teut, a hill in the Teutoburger Wald range. The monument is located inside the remains of a circular rampart. The monument was constructed between 1838 and 1875 to commemorate the Cherusci war chief Arminius and his victory over Rome at the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest in 9 AD. When the statue was built, its location was believed to be near the original battle site, although experts now consider it more likely that the battle took place near Kalkriese, about 100 km to the north-west.

Glückel of Hameln was a Jewish businesswoman and diarist. Written in her native tongue of Yiddish over the course of thirty years, her memoirs were originally intended to be an ethical will for her children and future descendants. Glückel's diaries are the only known pre-modern Yiddish memoirs written by a woman. The Memoirs of Glückel of Hameln provide an intimate portrait of German-Jewish life in the late seventeenth to early eighteenth centuries and have become an important source for historians, philologists, sociologists, literary critics, and linguists.

RV Travel VLOG, ROAD TRIP Germany Edersee and Fritzlar

In this video we're leaving the Edersee and visit the medievel town of Fritzlar.
I lost almost all of my footage of staying at the Edersee so there is not alot to show about that anymore.
We had also trouble with shooting video in Fritzlar because of my gimbal failure. But with photographs and some footage, you get a good feeling what it looked like.

GERMANY: Soest town [HD]

Soest has a multitude of historical buildings. The many medieval churches are build from a greenish sandstone unique to this area. Rows of delightful half-timbered houses and romantic lanes give the old town centre its unmistakable character.

One of the few remaining representative Baroque buildings is the Rathaus (Town Hall) with its arcade of nine arches on its west side. A statue of St Patroclus, the patron saint of the town, looks down from above this arcade. At the back of this Baroque building is the newer part of the Rathaus which formerly housed a grammar school. The complete building complex encloses a leafy courtyard in which open-air performances take place.

Directly next to the Rathaus rises the tower of the Patrokli-Minster (The Tower of Westphalia). This Romanesque building dates from after 965 AD when it was founded as a collegiate church.

Two thirds of the town walls and their dry moats have been preserved and a walk along them is particularly inviting in April and May when the trees are in full bloom.

Among the old specialties of Soest are the Möppkenbread and the Pumpernickel. The Bakery Haverland at the town center, has existed since 1570. A newer specialty is the Bullenauge (Bull's eye), a mocha liquor, sold mostly at the Allerheiligenkirmes. Another specialty of Soest is the Soester Beer, also called Zwiebel-Bier, which literally translates as Onion beer, because it's brewed since 1993 in the Zwiebel (Onion) inn.

As a Hanseatic town, Soest played a crucial role in the structure of medieval Germany and it was the merchants of Soest who made a decisive contribution to the formation of the powerful Hanseatic League.

Soest is located in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is the capital of the Soest district. The district covers the northern part of the Sauerland hills.

The Sauerland is a rural, hilly area spreading across most of the south-eastern part of North Rhine-Westphalia, in parts heavily forested and, apart from the major valleys, sparsely inhabited.
