Bonneville Shoreline Trail Salt Lake City Utah
I was walking my daughters dog today on the Bonneville Shoreline Trail in Salt Lake City and thought I would share the view. It is a great walking trail that curves around Salt Lakes City's East and North sides

Salt Lake Valley from Bonneville Shoreline Trail via Quadcopter- Summary
I did a short hike up the Bonneville Shoreline Trail to fly my quadcopter and try out the new GPS and video camera.
It snowed the prior night at that elevation, which made for some fun shots.
The little waves that you see are due to vibration, an issue I'm working on.
Thanks for watching!

Kevin Hikes The Bonneville Shoreline Trail In 3D
Skirting the western edge of the Wasatch Mountains and following a geological bench left behind 15,500 years ago, today's Bonneville Shoreline Trail provides area runners an easily accessible, rolling route.
Trail Stats
Just over 100 miles
There was a time when more than half of Utah was covered by water. Lake Bonneville extended as far west as Nevada, north to Idaho and into southern Utah before receding during the Pleistocine period (think: woolly mammoths) and leaving behind the geological shelf known as the Bonneville Shelf.
Fast-forward 15,500 years, and that shelf hosts the Bonneville Shoreline Trail, a route that the BST Committee hopes will someday connect the Idaho border to Nephi, Utah, 280 miles long. One hundred miles of this multi-use recreation trail—plus multiple connectors, spurs, and unofficial segments—currently provide area runners access to the foothills and mountains.
At roughly 5,100 feet elevation, the trail hovers just above downtown Salt Lake City, rolling gradually as it heads north and south on the western edge of the Wasatch Mountains.
Since the BST rolls instead of climbs straight into the mountains—and offers multiple easy access points to Salt Lake residents—the single- and double-track trail sees much use from runners, hikers, and mountain bikers year-round. And since it's mostly smooth and not too steep, the BST attracts beginner trail runners on short outings as well as runners who may veer off the trail to tag summits like Twin Peaks and Little Black Mountain.
Park Here
Locals living in the Avenues section of Salt Lake or at the University of Utah need only run or bike a short distance to access the BST, and there are multiple trailheads along its 100-mile length. But three major parking areas serve Salt Lake City proper:
City Creek. From downtown Salt Lake, take Canyon Road (which veers off 3rd Avenue near N. State Street) or Bonneville Boulevard north into City Creek Canyon. Where the pavement does a U-turn, a small parking area on the right side of the road gives access to the BST.
Across from the Hogle Zoo is the Emigration Canyon Trailhead/access to the BST. From Foothill Boulevard, take Sunnyside Avenue east to the Hogle Zoo.
Natural History Museum. The Natural History Museum—part of the University of Utah's Research Park—and adjacent Red Butte Gardens back up to the BST. Take Wakara Way off of Foothill Drive or 500-S to the entrance of Red Butte Gardens.
Local Knowledge
Since the trail lacks tree coverage and is mostly exposed, summer months get brutally hot. However, for that same reason, the BST is among the first to dry out in the spring, luring runners from higher elevations to its dirt surface.
In the winter months, the trail sees enough foot travel that it's almost always hard-packed.
Local Love
With its proximity to town and especially to the University of Utah, the BST sees high traffic from people taking leisurely walks to ultra runners logging miles.
The 17-mile Wasatch Steeplechase runs on, and crosses over, the BST for short segments en route to Smugglers Mountain and back from downtown Salt Lake City.
Share the Trail
With its mostly smooth surface and rolling nature, the BST attracts many mountain bikers (so keep your head up). The trail is also very popular for hiking and walking, and allows dogs on most sections.
Why We Love It
The BST connects our city to the mountains, to the foothills, to the playground. I hit the trail and I can run for a day.
Bonneville Shoreline Trail-- Ogden Canyon to Strongs Canyon
I ran this in December 2015.
I would highly recommend this section of the trail for a trail run or a walk. The first 3 miles from Ogden Canyon is a steady climb and then it levels off for a mile or so till Strongs Canyon. It is great all seasons- even in the snow.

The Bonneville Shoreline Trail: Solo Hike, South Ogden to Uintah
On Friday, September 26th, I went on a solo day hike along a tiny portion of the Bonneville Shoreline Trail near my home in South Ogden, Utah, down into the town of Uintah. This is the first in a series of hikes along the trail that I plan to take eventually. Watch me get lost! Watch me trip! Hear my story about a kid I hit while riding his bike! Oh, and check out some nice views. What more could you want?
Utah weather is crazy I swear!!
If this doesn't describe utah. Idk what does, it went from lighting at night to sunny, to hailing to sunny in 5 mins lol

Bear Canyon Bridge Trail Guide, Sandy, Utah
3 bridges, a boulder tunnel, a waterfall, mountain and urban views, this hiking trail has something for everyone!
This trail has a few different entry points from the Bonneville Shoreline Trail (BST). Actually, the BST is the only trail you really need to follow if you want to go on the suspension bridge shown in the title screen. However, if you want to see the waterfall and a smaller bridge, then an extra climb is needed.
The trailhead as shown on alltrails starts in Hidden Valley Park in Sandy (South of Salt Lake City), but when you get there, if you don't know the place, it can be a little tricky to find, mostly as you are not parking at a trailhead, but at the park itself. If you go to the far end of the parking lot toward the mountain (GPS marker is listed in the video), you will see a trail going up the hill, follow this paved path about .1 mile to the actual trailhead. This is the way started the trail. However, if you want to shorten it, go further down the paved path maybe .3-.4 mile til you can see a wide gravel path going up a hill, this will shorten your trail by about .5 mile probably. Walk up this hill, take a right at a set of steps and go down over a bridge, follow the BST Trail to a fenced area. If you go into this fenced area this is actually the Bear Canyon Loop which requires a climb up a few hundred feet incline then down over a bridge, where a small waterfall can be seen. However, if you are there with a dog, or just want to see the suspension bridge, then walk past the wooden gate to the Bear Canyon Loop, go straight and get to the bridge in a jiffy! There are map screen shots in the video trail guide that will help you with this hike.
There are other ways to get to this bridge- other trail entries from nearby neighborhoods, or maybe even if you are walking from the opposite direction on the BST.
Keep in mind there is a good chance to see mountain bikers as well as hikers on this trail.
This trail is also popular with families with small children as well as tourists and trail runners.
