Jumeirah Turtle Rehabilitation
The Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Project has been running successfully since 2004 and is a collaborative effort of staff at Wildlife Protection Office and Burj Al Arab Aquarium. The large enclosure at the Mina A'Salam allows the team to monitor the final stages of rehabilitation before the turtles are released back into UAE territorial waters.

Burj Al Arab releases turtles with Dubai British School
The Aquarium team at Burj Al Arab recently hosted an educational experience for the Dubai British School to educate the pupils about the Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Project (DTRP).
The children were so motivated by the project that they went away and managed to raise $2,000 to purchase their own satellite tag. The Aquarium team attached the tag to a turtle, which the children decided to name Crush, after the baby turtle in the well-known Disney movie 'Finding Nemo'.
On Tuesday 8 April 2014, 75 children were invited to the beach at Burj Al Arab to release Crush back into the waters. As a surprise, the Aquarium team also arranged for the children to release an additional 20 hawksbill turtles. This brings the total number of turtles released during the project to 583 - an incredible achievement for the DTRP, which will celebrate its tenth anniversary in June.
The DTRP is based at Burj Al Arab and Madinat Jumeirah and runs in conjunction with Dubai's Wildlife Protection Office.

SAVING DUBAI’S TURTLES
The Jumeirah Group operate a conservation project in Dubai to protect turtles and I went to join the release of them by Burj Al Arab into the Arabian Sea.
Most of the turtles were a few months old, but one 20 years old turtle was seen by Sky Dubai from the air, struggling in the water. So it was taken in and rehabilitated and we released it this morning.

Turtle Rehabilitation
About the Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Project (DTRP)
The DTRP is based at Burj Al Arab and Madinat Jumeirah and runs in conjunction with Dubai's Wildlife Protection Office.Dubai's only turtle rehabilitation project is a collaboration between Jumeirah's Aquarium team and the Wildlife Protection Office, with essential veterinary support provided by the Dubai Falcon Hospital and the Central Veterinary Research Laboratory.
The project started in 2004 and has rehabilitated and released over 554 endangered sea turtles. This year alone, the project received and has rehabilitated over 250 sea turtles.
In the final stages of rehabilitation, turtles are monitored in the large enclosure at Mina A'Salam before being released back into UAE territorial waters. This is where public turtle feeding takes place twice a week on Wednesday at 1pm and Fridays at 1pm. Guests and members of the public are invited to attend a brief talk on the project and also participate in feeding the turtles at the large enclosure located in Mina A'Salam between Zheng He's and Al Muna.
